Hello, I'm quite new to this Coven so you probably don't know me.
I just wanted to talk about something I learned about... Qi.
The ancient Chinese described it as "life-force". They believed qi permeated everything and linked their surroundings together. They likened it to the flow of energy around and through the body, forming a cohesive and functioning unit. By understanding its rhythm and flow they believed they could guide exercises and treatments to provide stability and longevity.
Although the concept of qi has been important within many Chinese philosophies, over the centuries the descriptions of qi have varied and have sometimes been in conflict. Until China came into contact with Western scientific and philosophical ideas, they had not categorized all things in terms of matter and energy. Qi and li (, li, pattern) were 'fundamental' categories similar to matter and energy.
Fairly early on, some Chinese thinkers began to believe that there were different fractions of qi and that the coarsest and heaviest fractions of qi formed solids, lighter fractions formed liquids, and the most ethereal fractions were the "lifebreath" that animates living beings.
Yuán qì is a notion of innate or pre-natal qi to distinguish it from acquired qi that a person may develop over the course of their lifetime.
Qi can also be harnessed to create something like Telekinesis. Stopping bullets and arrows, moving objects, and a shield of sorts.
Humans contain most Qi nowadays, Dragons, Phoenix's, Qilin's, and Giant Tortoises were four animals that could harness Qi and use it in such ways.
Each pressure point on the human body can either stop Qi energy or strengthen it. Usually stopping it and if one was using it at the time it would be quite painful.
Qi energy is used via the hands, feet, and mind.
Qi energy can be used to heal oneself. One can actually shift all the pain in ones body to one area, so the other areas that are affected will not hurt.
Taking deep breaths while facing the sun as it rises will fill you up with Qi. Counting backwards from 500 or counting up to it helps as well. Thinking of one object surrounded by hundreds of other more distracting objects will help with concentration. (An example is a Beetle on a flower in a large garden with a river, tall tree's and bright flowers.
This is important: Emotions have a lot to do with Qi. Qi is powered by emotion. Anger is the easiest to harness but hard to control. A lot of times Anger is the only way to use one's Qi energy so unless in a bind. Use a more positive emotion, no mater how much you train with anger it will hard to control and the energy will be used up quicker.
A tingling sensation is felt when using Qi and there are many movements and exercises one can do to free up the energy and use it.
Qi is also told to give one a clairvoyant sense, seeing the future usually of oneself.
I may have left some information out, so if anyone else knows anything about Qi and I left something out, feel free to add.
Even if no one can harness true Qi, I thought it'd be good for people to know about it.
Meditation helps to channel Qi and to keep it in balance. Usually meditating regularly will help with your flow of Qi and will then aid in healing or any type of manipulation with your energy.
