I eat meat, although i should resolve not too, for it does not fit into my beliefs. Which are that the killing of an animal leaves it with anegative energy which is very bad for you, not to mention all of those gnarly hormones they beef them up with.
depends where you get the meat, most small family farms, don't, and new laws are being put in place to stop it, or at least limit growth hormones, but you are right. i tend to get mine at the local farmers market. i don't eat veal or tuna, and i know how many chickens are treated so i feel bad eating them, but, humans, as i stated, need some meat in their diets. it's a personal choice to eat meat or not. myself, i could never go hunting, but a person who hunts, say a deer, and uses every part of the animal, i'm fine with. it's that whole use what you need thing. things like trophy killings, or killing an animal cuz someone said the bladder cures some ailment, no, that's wrong, not to mention goes against wiccan reed.
Actually, humans don't need to eat meat. Several medical groups have posted evidence-based papers comparing generational vegetarians, such as Seventh Day Adventists, Buddhists and some Hindu sects and found that they are much healthier as groups than the rest of the meat-eating world, even when such factors as exercise, smoking and alcohol consumption are filtered out. Having said that, I believe that Wiccans truly have free choice and should do what their consciences dictate.
oh yes, you can be healthy without meat, just from an evolutionary standpoint those who didn't eat meat, didn't get the protein their brain needed and died off. in our day and age, one could live a healthy and long life without meat consumption [tofurky ftw!] and i agree too, harm none, however, to those who claim you're not a true wiccan unless you don't eat meat or use animal products, i don't agree with, purely choice, don't pressure/guilt someone to do something, that too is against wiccan reed to me.
I believe that its your choice, I know many people who don't eat meat and who do. Personally I eat meat and I really don't believe being Wicca detriments what I eat.
i personally do not eat meat. This has nothing to do with being a Wiccan, but i can't stand the taste. I mean, ew... i could never eat the insides of a poor cow.
Look, most of us eat meat because it's a very strong source of protein. It may not be entirely essential, but humans are omnivores, if you decide to eat meat, and you feel that you want to give thanks, then please do, the people who have to tend the cattle etc... all deserve thanks for their hard work. Humans have been eating meat a long time. Look at chimps as an example, they, like us, are omnivores.
I guess what I'm saying is don't judge those who choose to eat meat, and those who eat meat, don't just those who don't. Simple as that. We all have preferences just as we have opinions.

I find all these posts interesting. I have my own view of course; but whenever I meet a vegetarian, I ask the question "Why?".
If they say it is because they don't like the taste of meat, then fair enough. But it is those who say that killing animals is wrong when I will ask them, "You don't mind killing plants, then?"
And for everyone who says wiccans, and satanists even, dont do blood sacrifices.. Your wrong. I know many wiccans who do. (Even if they're a minority) And on the other hand many pagans traditions, like asatru and voudon, make animal sacrifices, while practices like thelema and satanism even use animals just to make magic more powerful or to communicate with spirits etc.
