I was wondering if anyone here knows of any magical uses for fossils. Aside from the idea of making a wand with a ring of fossil shark teeth surrounding a quartz crystal or spinosaurus tooth tip and a crinoid stem in the handle, I'm really drawing a blank. A shame because as a collector I occasionally find myself with extra specimens that have little display value and I'd like them to do more than collect dust. Any input would be gladly appreciated, not just for practical magic use mind you, but to add to my knowledge of fossis in general.
Well, in the magic department, from my own experience (you can't find much of anything on the web about it), they work great for enhancing the power of a spell or ritual when used as an additional focus, and because a fossile has both the properties of a stone and remains, the energy it resonates is simmular to the fossilized creature's life force (which is probably why they work so well for amplifying spells, almost like working with a familiar). You do have to be careful not to draw on them too much because you can sometimes channel the creature's spirit, and depending on the fossil, that can be a bad thing.
The other thing you can do are craft projects (that way you have a creative way to display your love of fossils [and even make creative ways to display your prized specimens] ), on potted plants (like some people use glass beads), or maybe a mini zen garden

According Cassandra Eason they are used in rituals to represent earth element .You can meditate holding them to remember past lifes and past civilisations .They symbolise life in its all forms so some people use them in healing and they can be used for protection .According same author they should be recharged on ancient places or spots ,or withing the sound of the sea .I meditate sometimes with my black fossil .Some people who practice psychometry have had very interesting results holding fossil blindfolded they could describe ancient earth and the seas also the way this creatures lived (remember they were blindfolded so they did not know what piece or rock they are holding ).
Wow, I had no idea that they had so much power in them. Thanks especially for the channeling warning Skywing, I have some rather dangerous apex predators in my collection [Megalodon, Suchimimus, the aforementioned Spinosaurus, Dromaeosaurus, Charcaradontosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus Rex] so I may avoid using those pieces for magic.
As long as your careful it shouldn't be a problem, the stronger the creature was in life, the stronger the energy in the fossil. As long as your careful everything should be ok. Also an occasional clensing should help keep negative energy from building up in them and help prevent negative results (thank goodness that the fossils I use are small harmless creatures like corral, tube worms, and one spiral shell [I'm not too sure if it's a snail or something else] , lol)
