So I am very aware that people find it wrong to attempt to use magic to make someone love them; this is violating their free will.
I was wondering though, if someone may have interest in them but hasn't taken the time to look, is it wrong to attempt to use magic to put the person in a position where they would be more easily able to determine the feelings for the caster?
I'm not so sure if it is wrong to use magic for the person you want to determine your feelings for. I think just going up to him/her and talking to him/her will help you get a better perspective of the person you're interested, without having to use magic.

What if you made that effort instead? In my experience you can cast spells until the cows come home but trying to make someone do anything they normally wouldn't is about as much use as a waterproof teabag.
Why not talk to this person when you next infrequently see them, keep doing so throw in a little flirting and see where it goes.
Murfie, that reply made me laugh- a waterproof tea-bag!
I think you can influence someone in certain ways, so long as their volition was to act in the way you wish already. That is you could influence a generous man to give you money, but you could not do that to a miser.
The potential for the desired behaviour must already be present within the individual.
I am reminded of Practical Magic, Sally is terrified of getting her heart broken so she refuses to fall in love. Her aunts want her to be happy and feel love, so they cast a spell to help her open up. As a result she does fall in love, but the man dies and she is left heartbroken as well as betrayed/resentful towards her aunts who only wanted to help.
Point is, no matter how good your intentions, it's best if the person decides. You could do a divination to see if they care for you or someone but it should be their choice. Same goes for healing spells, you think casting a healing spell to help someone is good, but if you don't ask, you're making the decision for them, thus taking away their right to choose. Mormons don't believe it's right to have blood transfusions, and many people sign papers saying if something happens do not resuscitate, or they don't want to be hooked up to machines to stay alive. While a doctor might disagree, they must adhere to the patients wishes. So too as a witch must you do what the person wants, not what you want. Sometimes you might throw your hands up and say 'who cares what karma throws at me, I need to do this' and that's fine provided you reflected and choose it based on your personal views.
