Close your eyes and visualize a shadow wrapping itself around you. Now picture it helping you and aiding you in anything. Open your eyes and say:
 

 

"Shadow help me through this way
in hope that you will surely stay
no harm or illness comes to me
as long as you are here
so mote it be."

Are you calling on the absence of light? I suppose if you are connected to it, but I doubt it works. There are many other protection options to choose from.
