The story of the snake and the fruit represents the awakening of the human conscience .Though humans probably started wearing pelt and clothing for warth soon become a form of modesty. at least in ancient hebrew people but evidence of humans wearing clothes can be found as always as 170,000 years ago.

Judaism has been around for about 4,000 years that's about a 800 year . Later in Genesis looking at abraham their oral memory of tribal history of the ancestors of the Jews the founder of the tribe. It is important to say the jewish people in reality are more of a nation than a true religion.
the snake most likey represents fear of death. But more likely the fear of the unknown. Leaving the garden of eden. And slaving away in the field to to make crops.
