handfasting

My fiance and I hav been engaged for 10 years now and decided to end our engagement next year with a handfasting, perhaps with celtic overtones. I'm looking for different suggestion. I have never attended a handfasting (only modern weddings), and I know a handfasting will be more appropriatte for us, but am looking for suggestions so I can pick and choice what elements I want to comprise this rite for us/ and our family (yes, our children too, if you have any ideas for including them). TIA

I would look at some of the traditions from countries with the happiest marriages. There may be something to the spiritual practices they incorporate in their weddings.
