I do believe that there are dangers to this activity. The chance that one might break the chord that connects the soul to the body. I find that with this experience one has to be cautious

The chord ? I never saw this silver chord that people claim.
When you dream a devil in a dream what happens ?
you get shocked and so does happen on astral projection.
Second what's the soul ? the human have an energy body,
more called a etheric body or spiritual body.
First, I like to describe AP as a city. If you go to the bad part of town you have a greater chance of getting hurt than you would on a well light and busy main-street.
Ive heard of the cord before, I believe its an envisioning technic used to make AP easier. And in theory the spiritual body could get separated or cut from your physical body. However it is very easy to naturally, with out even realizing it, keep this from happening. Our connections to our spiritual body is very strong.
Also some people believe there spiritual body to be their soul. Many terms are often used for the same thing as the magickal community is often not well organized.
These are rumors, while APing part of you conciseness remains in the physical body. This prevents you from dying and from becoming possessed. If you stay afraid like this than you will have a hard time astral projecting. The only malevolent beings you will encounter in any realm are just projections of your fear.
Sylvan Muldoon, author of "The Projection of the Astral Body", described the "grey/silver cord" as not only being the connection between your astral and physical self, but it is the transference of energy from the astral to physical body. He believed that this cord was responsible for full human life, filling the physical body with the "soul" or "spirit", or (to quote from Genesis) "the breath of life". If you look at it this way, the only way for the cord to become severed, is for the physical body to die. If anybody/anything even comes remotely close to killing your physical self, then the cord will tug you back into your body rather violently, and very, very quickly. If you were going to die of, say, natural causes (as Muldoon also states that it should be easier to project when your physical body's wellness is... not so well) then you would die anyway, regardless of if you were projecting.
You don't have to worry about the cord being severed; it's not going to happen.
Blessing to all well you got max of answer already but here's one more danger When you astral project it's important you center ground and shield yourself first and yea If theres any evil spirit present around you while you astral project it can possess you let me explain like this suppose You are a car and inside car is your soul driving you when you Astral Project you leave the doors of car(You) Open for that anyone can skip into car(you) if you don't have protection... I don't say it happens always but It do can happen and is possible to happen to anyone unprotected..Second is to struck into Astral world I don't know about it that it's truth or not but few peoples believe that you can struck into AW for bit time by many reasons if you forget how to come back or magnetic fields etc but it's not my views it's what peoples say...
AP can take you anywhere you are willing to go but You must be strong and able to go there..it's not that easy as it looks you need much practice..And when I mean anywhere that definitely also means you can talk to angels demons there and to me the demon part is that Lunarunes said above of city's dark part...and ofcourse you will get any powers you like to have But still there always are danger in every thing...Be Safe if you perform it ...

I have to take issue with what you said Star, as I don't believe you can be possessed while in a state of projection.
You may the analogy of driving a car, and when in a state of projection, all of the doors are open and anybody can come in, yes?
I prefer to say that, when you project, you get out of one vehicle (physical) and into a different (astral, ethereal, and so on). You are still the only one with the keys to your physical body, and so you can go back whenever you wish; you are also locked into your projected body, so nobody can get in either.
This is how I look at it, anyway. This idea of "possession" simply seems a bit strange to me; it's not explained how it happened, and I don't think I've ever heard any projector say that they've been possessed. Even a personal testimony can be flawed, mind you.

Yea agree with you But I just shared my views that my teachers taught me :) well I asked many peoples about this what's truth and when you search you find lot of different views from all.. for me till you don't experience anything you can't say much about it same with me :) ..And when it's possible to have a possession in conscious state when our spiritual body is in our physical body then why cant possession happen when spiritual body is absent??? That possession I don't mean that something enter in your body and take body with itself while you stay outside this is not possible anyway but spirits like demons if are around while you project yourself they may attract towards you and possess you if you are unprotected or have fear of possession or may be invited them to do so???And I said you may struck there for bit time that means it can take time to come back but you will never struck there forever also these are not my views as I don't studied AP yet lol !!As you said yes our spiritual body is locked I agree on this fact.. :) But still this world is strange full of mystery anything maybe possible here that we don't know But let it be RESEARCH AND EXPERIENCE yourself only can tell you the truth you can't say anything till you do yourself and EXPERIENCE..so I think after Demonology I'll start Astral Projection to explore it Then I may know what's truth ...

Im late returning to this topic, but heres what I have to add to the debate.
Its never I good idea to assume that something, in this case the silver cord, will always be safe. It is a good rule to assume, that something out there knows how to get around what ever you are using.
I have experienced the lost of my spiritual body and its return, while it was absent I was fine physically. (Granted it was only an hour or two)
When you AP you don't completely spiritually leave your body, a connection still remains. (which very well be the silver cord) To use your examples, I would say that you are in and driving two cars at the same time, when go to the spirit world you are attuning yourself with your spiritual body. In other words your point of view switches from one car to the other, however both are still being driven.
