I love tree's. I mean I feel so connected to them. They are magic even in the basic root of all things. They give us pure air, shade, and some bare fruits and many more things. They live on forever. And are very very wise. They have so many different connection to other things and each is special in it own way.
Working near tree's can boost your energies. And the energies in casting. All tree's have a particular abilities and connections.
All the tree's I have worked with have healed my headaches as well as give me more energy. They are so nice. I know a few trees that have shown me past things and I have seen future events with the help of a tree of mine that I work with. As a Tree once say we are our own shield to knowledge and experience.
If a spell or ritual says to pound a nail into please.. please find a different way. Never hurt a tree.Instead you could bury the nail at the base of the tree or writing on the leaf or on a fallen branch or twig.
When working or talking to a tree. Always give them respect and when you work with them. And tell them what you need. And when you tell them what you need.. Tell them why and how fast you may need it. I have never asked to much. At least I have never tried to.Trees know so much they are very wise. They are very different from us. But they are still able to communicate to us if we listen.
I sometimes write things on fallen leafs. I use a twig and light one of the ends of the twig and write on to the leafs.Sometimes I just draw pictures on to them.
But the best thing about a tree they are a friend you should treasure forever.

Found throughout time and in various different cultures, trees have often become a symbol of life and wisdom or sacred knowledge. It has also been considered to be inherently magical, as the roots of a tree sink deep into the Earth and the limbs reach high towards the heavens. Humanity and trees have always had a close bond, as trees give us many things we need: wood for building shelter or making fire, clothing and tools made from its bark and wood, weapons, food from its fruit, leaves, etc. From this vital connection, its easy to see why trees have been worshipped and worked with, or otherwise incorporated into magical and spiritual practices. Learning to connect and work with trees may help you as well!
As with any kind of spirit work, you should begin work with a tree by approaching it and getting to know about it. It is best to do so with a candid and polite demeanor. It is suggested that when approaching a tree, you should begin at a courteous distance as you introduce yourself. You may approach and either sit beneath the tree, or stand before it. Placing a hand on the bark of the tree may help you to feel connected to it. You should take a moment to meditate on how the tree responds to you, whether you feel it is accepting of your presence or desires you to leave. If a tree is willing to work with you: ask before taking anything from the tree (such as bark, leaves, etc) and you should always thank it/ show appreciation as you would any other spirit. Giving the tree offerings may help your relationship as well as you begin to get to know it.
One might consider meditating next to or under a tree in order to attempt to attune themselves with the energies associated with that particular tree. Begin by finding a comfortable position either close to or touching the tree: sitting cross-legged with your back against the bark of the tree is one such option. Close your eyes and focus on clearing your thoughts and feelings.
Once youve achieved this, you can breathe in and out slowly in a rhythmic manner. Visualize yourself as the tree, breathing in and out. If it helps, you might assume a physical position to symbolize a tree: planting your feet solidly on the ground and raising your arms above your head. You might visualize your feet as roots, then, connected deep into the earth and your arms as branches- reaching out into the sky. After you do this, visualize energy from the earth below you moving up inside of you from feet and being released at the top through your head. As this occurs, you may find yourself swaying slightly from side to side- as a tree would in the wind.
You can continue this into a deeper meditative state or stay at this level for as long as youre comfortable. If you choose to go deeper, trees are great visual tools for journeying. Within Northern tradition, for instance, many individuals ride Yggdrasil and imagine themselves moving along the branches of Yggdrasil and into other realms. This may help you as a guide when projecting.
Here is one method of tree meditation:

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a particular tree that they prefer over others?

I find myself largely attracted to willows. I think part of it has to do with its relationship to water. The imagry of a weeping willow, hanging over the edge of the enbankment as its leaves tread upon the water fills me with an unspeakable joy. The willow itself envokes a lot of emotions within me, for some reason. I enjoy spending time near it. I'd love to get to know more about it. I've read it is associated with many healing properties, and as someone who is often in chronic pain- perhaps that plays into my overall fondness for the tree.
