White Candle Substitiute?

From my understanding white can be used in place of another color. The problem I'm having is understanding why? I've combed through pages to find the answer. No one has yet to give even a half decent theory.

White is in general a mixture of all colours, much like white light contains all the colour spectrum, so it can be used to replace all the other colours.

This is what I always understood to be the reason, but this may not be correct.

From what I understand, I thought white was the absence of color and black was what happens when you mix all of them.

This is what I was taught in stage craft and art classes. So do you see why I'm not so sure that theory makes much sense?

I understand metaphysics is not an indefinite science. I would simply like a theory that is more plausable.

White is how we perceive a mixture of all colors of light being reflected.

Black is the absorption of all colors, thus none are reflected back.

In Science , White reflects light and is a presence of all colours. Black is not a colour , is an absorbtion of colour and absorbs light.

Take a colour wheel and spin it. The colour wheel becomes white.

Take a bunch of coloured lights and pass it through a prism. It becomes white.

Take white light and pass it through a prism. It becomes an array of coloured lights
