Anyone wanna mentor me?
By:
Hello, I was wondering if there was anyone who could help me learn witchcraft. I am a fast learner and the main things I would like to learn are Sigil magic, spiritual spells and also learn moreabout mystical and spiritual creatures and whoever teaches me can teach me anything they would like.If you are a witch that lives in Tennessee that's even better. If you would like to mentor and help me with anything message me. Thank you.

nice to meet you, unfortunately for a number of reasons you'll have a hard time finding a mentor. for one thing it's illegal in most countries to teach a minor without their parents consent. secondly most who are wise enough to teach don't because [ignoring point one] magick is something you need to feel, so unless they were standing beside you as you do the exercises they couldn't help you if you were having trouble grounding for example. third, there's a ton of information at your disposal if you only looked. [people are very willing to give advice and links] you might wish to join a teaching coven and read a few beginners guides. [also, be careful meeting people off the internet, can be dangerous]

If it is Traditional Witchcraft that you are interested in learning, here are some links to posts by Weatherwax that I think you would find helpful

Trad Craft 101: http://www.spellsofmagic.com/read_post.html?post=857738

And here is an article on the basics of spell work that I wrote:

If you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

And the following links in this thread will also help you learn the basic skills necessary for effective spellwork.

The reason you're having trouble with finding a mentor is because of the major misconception of the legality and unltimately the morality of teaching youth. It's against international law for parents to deny their children religious freedom. The internet myth (the article sitingSmith v. Society of Sisters andMeyer v Nebraska) is fabricated and inaccurate. Unfortunately until that stigma is unlearned in the Craft community at large it will be very difficult for you to find someone willing to teach you. Then again- would you want to be taught by anyone who can't fact check their information before repeating it?

You're best education right now, is to follow Lark's post. Self-educate.Verify. Most people aren't against answer direct questions. As long as you arm yourself with the best infomation you can find- you'll do perfectly fine! Trust yourself and trust the universe, it will guide you.
