Should I use a pink candle in a protect my friend spell?

That all depends on whether you feel it's the right colour for the working.

Typically pink candles are used for: friendship, fertility, happiness, platonic love, and workings connected with children.

The most important thing is that you feel it's right for the working.

Does the spell call for a particular color of candle?

If it doesn't then I'd suggest using a candle that represents the color of protection to you. Think about what colors make you feel warm and safe and go with that.

"Traditionally" a black candle is used in protection spells. They can be hard to find sometimes, but with Halloween just past you should be able to find them more easily and probably on sale as well.

In a pinch, a white candle can be substituted for any colored candle.
