Reputation System

Hello everyone, I am looking for clarification on how the reputation system works on spellsofmagic.com. There are members with reputation statuses of novice or beginner with a history of one to three posts; compared, to coven Priests and Priestess with statuses of beginner or none awarded at all who've contributed a plethora of information. What is the reason for these inconsistencies and how can members build their reputation status on this site? x

Forgive me for any inaccurate information as it has been a while since I was informed on how the reputation system works though if I recall correctly a person's reputation is raised by administrative level members, such as moderators. I also recall that even if one person believes you worthy of a reputation increase that it takes multiple people feeling the same for your reputation to actually be raised. Fluffy posts and the like obviously can result in your reputation being lowered or eliminated so in some cases that may have happened to people you feel would/should have a higher reputation. I have heard repeatedly that interaction within the chat is considered much more important than forum posts when it comes to your reputation being raised and that if one doesn't take part in the chat it can be much more unlikely that their reputation will increase. I for one never take part in the chat and as such was surprised when my reputation was raised to Beginner. I can understand to some degree why chat interaction is more important as knowledge shared in the chat is more immediate implying they know the information well rather than having used an online resource to look it up as one may do to comprise a post and the chat is often monitored by a moderator who can see a person's interaction with other members in real-time giving them a good idea who is deserving of a higher reputation.

Wind_Kitsune, the information isn't entirely correct, while yes, moderators typically can influence the change of a user's reputations, but it isn't the "user level" that does, the reputation system works like this: No Rank, Fluffy, Beginner, Novice, Knowledgeable, and Adept. The last two ranks "Knowledgeable" and "Adept" have the ability to "vote" on a user's reputation, most of our "Knowledgeable"/"Adept" user's give reputations based on what they see from your; Chats, Forum Posts, and Article/Spell posts, but mostly they keep an eye on the chat and the forums. Now the two reputations "No Rank" and "Fluffy" are invisible to anyone that isn't "Knowledgeable" or "Adept". Fluffy is typically the reputation given to users who don't show serious interest in real magic, besides the "TV/Book" versions, but Crystal has given you a link with more information about the site's reputation system, just thought I'd share a little. Just remember, never ask for a reputation, just contribute valuable information to the site and be active either by asking questions or by sharing what you know.
