That's a very nice post.

I hope you don't take this as offensive because it's a real question. I'm going to lay out what I know, as to not take up too much room in your thread by posting back and forth numerous times.

There is so very little known of the original druids due to the fact that they never wrote anything down. The only things known about them (from my research) were taken from eye witness accounts from those who tried to study them or stumbled into them (all outsider's perspective). There hasn't even been one single artifact found that can be truly traced to them. How do people continue to call themselves "druids" and follow the "ways" when we have such a limited amount of information about them? Where does this information come from exactly? Is it a guess based off other surrounding belief systems?

It's always confused me.

The other thing is, druids were seen using willing human sacrifices in their rituals. How exactly would you get around such practices in modern times when they were such an important part of their magick?

If I'm not mistaken the "ancient order" was a recreation of druidism in the "idea" of what druids were like back in the 1800's which is considered "neo". That's all well and fine, but I'm just wondering, did these people feel they were the reincarnation of the ancient druids or something? Or did they just start from scratch?

Again, no offense intended! I just feel that since you brought up this information you would be the best person to ask. =)

No offense taken. The AODA was formed in 1917 and yes, modern druidry is mostly taken from the stories and speculation as well as some other texts. To me it seems like they took a strong shamanic approach and mixed it up a bit.

Good post, :D Druidism , I believe, is the "original" religion concerning Wicca, shamanism, and many other polytheistic religions.. the fact there is very little actual written knowledge proves the validity of a "true" religion.. carry on, :D
