Awaketoolong, you are funny, for info on satanism you refer to the christian sources, the dictionary changes its definition to fit what the media is portraying at the time, dont believe me, see for yourself, the dictionary has changed the meaning of literally to "something thats not actually true", so dont use a dictionary as proof that you are right. Futhermore Satanism does have roots in ancient Sumeria, many Gods that were worshipped then are now worshiped in Satanism and Satanism did not adopt other Gods. Right now Satanism has demons because of the demonization of Gods by the Christian church. Pazuzu actually protected mothers during chilbirth and drove away evil spirits. But the media potrayed him to be the demon that possesed the child in the moive exorcist. Satanist with a conscience do not even look at the Joy of Satan site as that site advocates child and animal abuse. If you do want to validate this info, first learn the list of demons in Satanism and then search for demons in other older religions and you will get a grasp of how old Satanism really is.

Vittorio, I disagree with Christianized demonology as much as I disagree with the way that The Joy of Satan has decided to transform Sanskrit and Sumerian mythos into the backdrop for their own faith. I don't refer to "Christian" definition, but to etymology - the history of word usage. The quote that I use is verbatim from an etymology site, not a dictionary. I should have clarified that, perhaps.
Further, as I pointed out, The Joy of Satan and other sites try to define Satan (the word) originating in Sanskrit and meaning "truth" but this is based solely on the misunderstanding of various syllables of other words. Satan is a word found only in Hebrew - not Sanskrit. Thus the etymology quote I gave earlier not including Sanskrit as its origin.
The demons included in Satanism dating back to Persia, and in some cases Sumeria, are perhaps the only ties Satanism may have to Sumeria. And they have absolutely nothing to do with Satan or Christianity. They were just caught up in the generalized lists of evil spirits within various Judeo-Christian witch hunts and the like.
Satanism never existed until Christianity, because Hebrew faith doesn't even really believe in a hell as is typically understood. "Satan" isn't the great evil that is portrayed in modern Christianity. Anything that was "the adversary" was part of god's plan. Why worship a number of individuals who are all playing the part of adversary, at the instruction/will of God?
But sure, you can decide because demonology is skewed by medieval Christian propaganda, and the Joy of Satan and other sites poisoned the history of your faith with a great deal of falsehoods. Maybe they weren't the first one to do it. I have no idea. What I do know is that no historical record that I have ever found can collaborate what various Satanic sites that match up with the Joy of Satan's doctrine claim. And if you want to call me funny for not believing the version of history presented only by your faith, go right ahead. Many Christians do the same thing, and I'm sure you shake your head at them and call them funny too.
Awake is correct in his counter-points. Satan as we have come to
understand him, originates with the Torah. Before that, there are no
cuneiform tablets that allude to this genunely unique god. The Hebrew
name for Satan is 'has- Satan', which literally means "resister". As to the
JOS, they give true Satanists a very bad name. They are one of my personal
hates, along with those goth kids who go around sacrificing innocent
animals just for kicks. True Satanists view him as a friend and guide, one
of wisdom.
awaketoolong sorry if i had offended you, when i said funny i meant to the fact that you refered to a dictionay, futhermore i would like t point out that even though you are right in some of your counter points, i would like to point out that originally Satan was called Shaitan(maybe not spelt right) which was far before any Christian religion was formed
Its all good, Hadit. All the Hebrew prophets were adopted by Mohamed.
Even the meteorite they bow before in Mecca pre dates Christianity. All they
have done is taken other beliefs and meld them into Islam.
