if you enter into the day expecting bad things, then you will be searching for their arrival in every corner and shadow until you have satisfied yourself by finding them. I would suggest first considering what practices you are already familiar with and working from there to find or build a basic cleansing and protection. Even if it is as simple as some light meditation and an affirmation of being free of the influences of superstition, or even an affirmation that the day will be an outright good day and filled with positive opportunities.
Every now and then certain years my birthday is on Friday the thirteen and nothing really happen to me on those days but actually good luck. As it been said it does matter on the belief on the person what it means to you.
