I have had some time to observe how this ranking system has effected people around .Because that is what really matters and that is the reason that it has been introduced .Overall most people struggle to get the point behind it ,since it is hard for everyone to evaluate the knowledge which other person has especially if they both follow different paths and have different way to see the world .That easy can became breeding ground for arrogance and whinning and constant fights ,But people remember this is not final ,the rank you have now is not the final .We all have to remember that each and any of us started as member ,then worked hard and has grown in knowledge ,reputation and hierarchy .It does not matter how other people see you ,what does matter is how strong you have set your goal and how willing you are to work for it .It is up to us to see the things from that point of view -i have been given chance to start from low rang and work my way up and proof myself .In way that encourages us to just rise and shine with all knoeledge we have and share it .I have seen many people who used to not talk much for magic suddenly to become superactive and really show some serious knowledge .Think of it of challenge we all need challenges to can grow mentally and spiritually .So show people what you have got there and what you are able to achieve .Focus rather than that ,that just on all negative points such you have been rated wrong and underated .No matter how much we know there is still much more to be learnt .When you think you are master you stop to grow because you delude yourself you know it all !
Im way Ze is right it is sort of psyhological experiment ,because you really can see how people react to that system and then you can evaluet them by the way they act toward it .People who have strong will and are hardworking wont pay much attention they will keep working hard ,nothing can really stop them ,people who want to work less and grow fast will whin and complain ,they rather will try to sweettalk people and rather will beg for this highter rank than work for it .With each and every word and action you show your real nature ,especially when it comes to ranks because we humans are group animals we are competitive by nature .However some compete with strong skill and knowledge other compete infair ,because are too lazy to actually work .But think about it which leader you would like to have ,those who work hard for your wellbeing and advancing or for mere sweettalker .There is good side and bad side into everything it is up to us to each one we will focus mainly .It is your choice and your call .
Please note i spoke here overall i do not adress certain people or groups ,so if someone has felt offended that has not been intended by me on first place and i am sorry for any inconvenience .I just wrote the way i see this system and the reason behind it and i can tell it does work ,bringing most good and most bad into people .Of course there will be individuals wich will see it as bad and other as good but that is their right .To each one his own .
all it will do is feed the ego. eventually those who have a high rank will feel they are at the top, superior, that everyone should come to them for help, you know, since they are the adept ;)
now, those with lower ranks will attempt to rise to the highest and the result is the above.
ranking systems are useless as all they do is make someone feel important.
I do not think so that importancy depend on what kind of rang you are ,but rather of your selfesteem and your skills and knowledge .Even moderators and editors will enjoy talking with knowledgable and wise person .I do not understand why some people miss to see the point that will more power comes more ruiles and more hard work .Many think that being in charge is merely a game for power and who tells who what to do .That is not the case the only reason this people are put in charge is because they have shown good leadership skills ,are they perfect nope not on us is .However they do all what they can do to make this place organised and comfortable for all off us .I do not think so many realize how hard work is to be leader (no matter it it is moderator or leader of coven).Moderators and coven leaders need to meet certain expectation and everyone look to them to take the right decisions .Everyone expect from them to be excellent so they cannot mess and slack around as many others do .What is your power often is your weakness too .Why so many struggle to see the world throught their eyes ?If you are real leader you try to look the situation from every single point not only your own .Many of us spend countless hours working on forums and in covens ,sacrificing even our personal life for good off all people .And yeah indeed mods spend the most of their time working in their own covens ,in the forums and as much as they could in regulation of public chat .So i will respect them fro that work and will thank them for all they do ,because indeed it is a lot .Of course you are free too think being in charge is all fun .
Well...I really think that the rating system needs one major revision: it should be left up to a common consensus where EVERYONE has the opportunity to rate someone. Why? Because maybe the raters do not see what the person is doing or has done that would give them a lower, or higher ranking. I know for a fact that you should look at, for one thing, the spells a person adds and how their opinions rank. For instance, I know that I might have argument issues, but I have NEVER said outrageous things that would classify me as "Fluffy", on my profile, I have mine areas of study and none of it says anything that would make me Fluffy. Yes, on the forums, I have introduced new ideas, but never have I said the things a Fluffy would. So, the reason this should be left to the general population is because the opinion of many is fact, but the opinion of few is nothing more than opinion.
I also don't find it amusing to rate people like in a video game...as someone has already pointed out; I am simply agreeing with you.
And for another thing, there needs to be knowledge of two things IN ORDER TO BE FAIR TO ALL: the first is what is looked at when giving someone the ability to rate others and the second is WHO is rating you. Yes, this may cause some bitterness, but SUCK IT UP! The person/personas who rated you need to send a mail to you as to why they gave their individual ratings; if you don't like it, then that's just too bad.
Ok ok give me a moment to take all this in and die laughing. *cough* *cough* Alright I'm better now, just wow... I will admit that through the years this place did great with collaboration, but apparently common sense is no longer in the mix.
Did SOM suddenly become fubar, or some off the wall teenage spot? A member ranking system? This has me laughing uncontrollably, I will get this part out now for those who like to assume.. everyone go ahead and rate me fluffy right now and get it out of the way. (Less newbies in my mail box than already, so I'll appreciate that one.) I am the furthest from power hungry or egotistical, and I see absolutely no reason to flash credentials around here of all places.
You throw in a ranking system in a site where young people run rampant, and judging by this entire thread the animosity has already begun. People will be kissing tushie for ratings whether they know anything or not, kinda like the old days of becoming Mod. You will have cliques and groups, that if one gets upset they might all run against another person.
Yes I am well aware exactly how the rating system works, its how everything else here works. Regardless I'm kicked back with a box of popcorn, this I'm sure will keep us all entertained for weeks to come. Thank you Pet, you always have had a great sense of humor. =)
And if you have been on here for years, as you stated, is it really fair for you to be rated as a "novice"? Ranking, if anything, should be based on experience and spells added to the site, not on forum posts and opinions! New people who come on to the site will see the "ranking", which may or may not be correct and then go from there, instead of really looking into the information that truly determines a practicioners experience.
