What is Magick

I read something in my Wicca 101 class tonight that I wanted to share.
I actually knew this but putting it this way just might help someone else make sense of it.

Unlike "Magic" (no K), Magick is the art, or science, of manipulating or focusing will to manipulate one's immediate reality. "Magic" is parlor tricks, sleight of hand, pulling rabbits out of a hat. Before we go any further, let's make one very important clarification. There is no such thing as "Black Magick" or "White Magick", or good or evil magick. Magick is a neutral force, like electricity; how it's used depends on the user. Look at it this way: think of a chair. If I say to you, "You look tired; have a seat." Does that make it a "good" or "white" chair? Or if I pick up that same chair and beat you with it, is it then an "evil" or "black" chair? The chair, like electricity, or magick, is neutral. It's intent or how it is used is what counts.

Elish thank you for that post, and you are absolutely correct. I think people nowadays overlook that simple fact. They tend to mix concepts and ideals into one basket and pull out ideals that shouldn't exist. Much how society views the world, a man uses a gun to rob a store; people assume guns are bad. A cop uses a gun to catch the robber, guns are good. Either way of it's use the gun much like a wand or spell is neither good or bad; its a tool. Depending on how the tool is used the situation could be depicted as good, bad, light, dark, evil, etc.

In any situation the tool or even the person is not good or bad, though the decision or use could be. And in those cases its a matter of analytical thinking and opinions. ;-)

Excellent post I wish other people at times would see this. This thread really puts the point right there, I believe in what you both say, the decision to do "good" or "evil", "black" or "white" is all in the wielder not the tools which they use, after all it would not have happened if they had not caused it.
