Witches?
By:
Hello, I've got some questions about being and
becoming a witch.

1. What kinds of witches are there?
2. What does one do as a witch?
3. Why did you become or want to become a witch?
4. Can one be born as a witch and or learn to become one?

1. I can't reply in regards to witches because I am more along the lines of a magician as I understand these labels. I wouldn't concern myself with how I label myself, but more of what I want out of my practice. Spells seem to be mostly witchcraft, where rituals are more magician but they also overlap greatly. This is why I don't care about labels.

2. practice magick, learn, and grow.
3. my natural gifts led me into the world of magick.
4. you can inherit abilities that make becoming a witch/magician easier, but you shouldn't consider yourself a full practitioner of magick until you really learn it.

Sounds like your doing a homework paper.
1) to many for me to type
2)depending on what type of witch it is, honor deities, perform magick.
3) by label, I guess a witch would cover it, but I consider myself a practitioner often.I grew up with it, but didn't realize we were different than others until I was much older.
4) both.

1. What kinds of witches are there?
Potentially very many depending on how exactly you want to organize/categorize them.

2. What does one do as a witch?
Practice and study spells, rituals, meditation, etc.

3. Why did you become or want to become a witch?
To be honest, I really don't know; because I could I suppose.

4. Can one be born as a witch and or learn to become one?
Both. However, you can be born into a family that practices witchcraft, and choose not to be a witch.

1: This queston can't be answered as we could group them based off the way they practice which by that generalization the number could be limitless
2: Knowledge is the key to everything so learning
3: I don't really know but at first I guess because I found it interesting and because I just could
4: Being born into a family of those who practice magick would help (Such as parents teach their children of their culture and religion) as you'd learn easier but it doesn't mean you can't learn yourself later in life

1: labels are irrelevant, but the way I think of it a witch could be a healer, a loveworker, a hexer, an alchemist, a potion maker, a ritualist, a luckworker, a crafter, a combination of some or all, or anything else dependent on their path and practice. I like to think of myself as a healer.

2: one does as a witch what one wants and can. There's no set agenda for all witches to follow.

3: I became a witch to further my studies in energy work and magical arts in hopes of becoming an adept alternative medicine worker. My goal is to become proficient in potions, charms, wards, and spells all in the name of healing both the mind and body of myself and those around me.

4: everyone has the ability to use magic and energy. It's just a matter of learning to use those abilities. Even before I know even the slightest thing about energy working I've been able to manipulate my own energy on a small scale.

Being a witch is a choice you can make by learning about it and practicing. If it feels right to you then by all means pursue the teachings and put in the time, effort, and discipline.

I was being taught witchcraft from a very early age, though I was unaware of it.To me it was "just learning about things".
I was 17 before my teacher finally admitted that she was, indeed, a witch. The was because witchcraft was against the Law.
I was about that age when I asked her, point blank!, "What, exactly, is magic?"
She said,
"Magic is the knowledge of the few, for the benefit of the many."
She said television was magic!
So, I am a traditional witch. But, as has been said above, the word "witchcraft" covers a multitude of beliefs and practises.

1. What kinds of witches are there?

there are a lot of different types, there's some websites that list some, but you shouldn't be concerned about labels.

2. What does one do as a witch?

it's a matter of opinion, but i feel it's study. while spell casting is a part, its main component for me is study. learn about everything you can; herbs, crystals, chakra's, meditation, spells. even things like gardening, cooking, art, yoga, dance, and things you might think don't count in magick or a witches lifestyle do. never stop learning.

3. Why did you become or want to become a witch?

well i was raised Christian [like most people i think] i was really devout, was even wanting to become a reverend. one day i began questioning things, and while i was still religious [always been a spiritual person] and i believe in god and whatnot, Christianity didn't make sense to me anymore. so i began studying religions more in depth, and after a while i found Wicca, after a year and a day, i decided it was right for me. as my studies have gone on i've taken a few steps away from Wicca, and i consider myself a witch.

4. Can one be born as a witch and or learn to become one?

both to be honest. similar to how someone can be born Hindu, or Jewish, one can be born into a family of witches. unlike most religions however, this doesn't mean you are automatically of this faith. your parents will raise you the way they see fit, but when you become of age [different for everyone, normally it's 13 though] you are asked if you wish to become a witch. if you want to, you begin your year and a day, then you're initiated into the coven/path. but anyone can choose to join or leave, a witch can be anyone really. keep in mind though, this isn't like Charmed, where if you're born a witch you can automatically cast things like freeze rays or stop time or whatever. magick doesn't work that way. it's more like the movie Practical Magic [which does have a few fake spells in their too] the movie is about 2 sisters who are born into a long line of witches. Sally is very talented with spells, while Gillian has to work hard to cast. point is, just because you're born a witch, doesn't mean you are automatically one.
