I have read in many places that you should never blow out a candle during spell work, also I have read that you should never snuff out candles. I've done both and have been successful with both. I was wondering if any of my spells or ritual might backfire by doing this wrong and which one is correct or does it really matter?
There are different methods of extinguishing candles. The one I've seen mainly advised against is blowing the flame out, however, there are other warnings against snuffing and pinching. I usually try to snuff or pinch my flames out. I doubt your spells will backfire if you extinguish the candle a certain way. Do what you feel is best.
The very first spell that most people cast blows a candle out. If you have had a birthday cake with candles where people sang the song Happy Birthday to You and then you made a wish prior to blowing the candles out then you have cast a spell. The success of this spell as with any spell depends on how realistic the wish you make is. Once a person realizes the power behind the birthday wish and the actions leading up to it they can then utilize the ritual to its fullest potential. The group of people singing raises energy as well as the candles burning. The quick end to the candles flame seals the wish. This is why people are encouraged to blow the candles out quickly in one breath.
Keep in mind that each spell is different and that snuffing a flame out may be better than blowing a candle out depending on how the spell is constructed and what the spell is for. Some spells require you to burn a candle for a specific amount of time over several days. The candle should then be snuffed or pinched out as to not end the casting but allow you to pick up where you left off. Spells that require you to burn the candle completely can be snuffed or pinched if for safety reasons you need to put the flame out. You can then relight the candle to finish burning it completely. If the candle must be burned all at once be sure to choose a candle that is not too large.
All of the options for burning/extinguishing candles are valid depending on the specifics of the casting. Some ways are better than others for specific spells. Remember that just because a candle is burned all at once does not mean it is more effective or more powerful. There are a lot more factors that play into the success of any spell than simply one detail like how the candle is burned.
From my research, the longer the candle burns, the more potent and the longer it last. You usually blow or snuff a candle out when you are COMPLETLY finished with the spell.
I know to try and let the candle burn out but sometimes you can't and didn't know whether to snuff them out or blow them out if I can't supervise the candle.
The reply by kts is great. I had never even considered how a candle is extinguished could effect the success of the spell so this was a great forum question. Reffering to kts reply blowing out the candles to seal the spell makes perfect sense and the birthday candle analogy was ingenious. Also snuffing the candles if they should burn longer but can't be at that time and then relight them also makes sense that way they can burn as long as needs before the spell is sealed. Not only did this question bring something important to my attention but kts reply I'm sure will have a great effect on the success of my spells. This is why forums like this are so valuable thank you both and blessed be.
