What does enchanting an item do? How can I do it properly and what are the effects

I'm not sure if I can answer you're question completely or very well, but enchanting an item is basically when you put a "charm" on it. On tv, it's things like the Weasley's family car and in book it's the spindle needle Sleeping Beauty pricked herself on. In real life, it's not exactly like that. In some spells/rituals, when you do magick, instead of putting energy around yourself or someone else, you can put it into an item like a necklace or something and when that item is used or carried, the energies of the "enchantment" help you to complete your wish through the item. That's the best I can explain it at the moment. I'm sorry if it's not a very good explanation.

Charming an item, such as a ring or necklace, basically means that you are putting some sort of enchantment. Like, protection, or good fortune onto the item. You can do this by spell, by visualization, or other methods. I would constantly "feed" the item energy so that the charmed item's intention doesn't wear off.

Learn about directing energy. Put your energy into the item in a fashion relative to the purpose and viola! The effects depend on what you are charging the item with/for.

You invoke into the object the qualities or forces you require and direct it with focus and clear intent. Research talismans and amulets or sigil magick for more information.
