New and need help.

I am new to this sight and am sorta confused by some things. I have always had a good sense for magic, most of the time using it without knowing and always with bad drawbacks. I have always been able to see and sense things others can't and have learned many things because of that. However many of the things I have been reading are really getting me confused. I think many of the things may be basic however I really do not know.
For starters what is white magic and dark magic? I thought magic is just magic and it all depends in how a person uses it. Right?
I have also noticed that allot of spells have ingredients like symbols of power or a pentagram. What are those? Are there different types?

In the end magic is just magic and it all really depends on the intent. It's just that the media has portrayed "good magic" as white magic and "evil magic" as black magic. So white magic would be healing spells, protection spells, peace spells, and etc. While black magic would be revenge spells, death spells, conjuring spells and etc. There are tons of different types of ingredients. Really anything can be an ingredient for a spell. There are also types of magic that focus on the use of certain ingredients for example candle magic. Ingredients are used to personalize and enhance the spell. I hoped I helped in anyway! :)
