I have had great luck with Ouija boards. I am currently 43 and when I was a child my mother and I used one all the time. I am currently trying to find where the board went to. You simply ask it a question and wait for it to spell out the answer. I have always found that it works best with 1 male and one female. Don't believe the hooey that you see in the movie. It is just like anything else from our religion that has been slamourized by Hollywood. and no that's not a typo.
if used correctly, you should have nothing to fear. i have used one for 10 years [not all the time, once or twice a year] and the only time anything negative happened was when an inexperienced friend yelled at a spirit. she wasn't attacked, the spirit just stopped talking and refused to continue until my friend apologized and stepped out of the circle.
i feel you need two people to work the board. in my coven we do it blindfolded to make sure people aren't messing with the board, and a third person reads and records answers. when you use a board, cast a circle to keep negative beings out, meditate and clear your mind, and try to keep in a calm state. once you are done, thank the spirit, say goodbye, open the circle, store the board in a safe place, and cleanse the area just as a precautionary. i usually leave the cleansing until the day after since we typically use the board on Samhain and we welcome wandering spirits to stay the night. if in the morning the spirits decide to stay, then we cleanse. if you feel safer doing so right after, you can, theres no law against it.
My fiance and I actually use the ouija board frequently, but I know from experience that when I have used one with my brother in the past they do not work with him or ever again after that. I know of one other person that I am friends with who has this problem. It could be possible that either you or your friend have this issue. My fiance and I actually have a specific way of setting things up before we use one. If you would like to know the specifics then feel free to message me.
@Jamius some rules of the road for ouija
1) Respect the board
2) Do NOT have addictions of any sort
3) NEVER do a board alone, three-four people is a must
4) NEVER do a board in a location that has a hostile or violent past
5) NEVER ask questions such as 'when will I die' etc
6) When done, CLOSE the board much as you will close a circle, an open board can be very bad
RESPECT the spirit, but do NOT trust the spirit which you begin to speak with. Some spirits are who they say they are, but when I teach people about ouija the first thing I reference is a chat room. You login to a chatroom and see a plethora of names, ages, falsehoods etc but you rarely ever see the truth, for example, a 92 year old could post a 10 yr old and onwards and the same goes for the spirit world. Remember, you are likely talking to a spirit that can be aggressive or wants out of being trapped and will likely grant any desire you may have. This is a case when being careful what you wish for can and will be the difference between you becoming possessed or even gravely injured by a malevolent force. Also make sure you do not involve your family or loved ones, some spirits can be pack hunters, they can also follow the summoner home to make themselves known. By all means practice ouija but follow my advice, be protected at all times and never, ever, ever do ouija alone.
