Hi, I'm new to SoM

Hi guys, I'm new to SoM and I don't understand much yet. I want to learn about witchcraft and spell casting. I know you can't cast spells straight away when you're a beginner (like me), but I want to know the 'stages' and steps to casting a spell that works and basically becoming a witch. I've had some experience in meditating and visualization.

Also if anyone can recommend some articles or any websites/online books then that would be great.

Also I want to know what casting a circle is and how you do it. I've heard that witches cast circles to protect themselves when casting spells?

A casting circle is a one of the first thing in saftly using macic. I found a great ritual on this site. You can look for it " opening and closing circle" you ask the elements to help you and protect you during your magic casting. You always want to make sure you are safe from evil energies. I am also still learning, but I hope I helped you. Life is a continues learning curve. Shoot for the stars.

Start with the basics: meditation, energy exercises and visualization. There are links on my articles that can help.

There are articles on this website about magick. Under the tab "Articles". You should do more self reading and learning through books and other websites. Learning is always great and you can never stop learning! Use google as a search engine and start googling topics of interest. Topics like meditiation,altars,witchcraft,ect. Weed out information that is obviously wrong if it starts talking too fantasy like or too good to be true. Just use common sense when reading, or doing magick this should help you in learning the basics.

Many people use meditation and a variation of visualization excersies to help their endeavors for spell casting. There are many of techniques in the forums and outside of this website that help people improve their visualization and meditation.
