Hi~ I'm currently a newbie at spells and pretty much everything here, and I was wondering what type of spells I should start out with. I have no magic background what so ever, and I didn't want to try something and hurt myself or someone else, so if you could please recommend some spells for me, that would be great!
I spell is merely an expression of your desires being pushed to a point in which it can manifest. However this is not all that is needed when casting spells. There is no such thing a "newbie spells" because magick is such a dynamic and personal concept. A spell pushes the desired outcome of any situation or creates a situation that the caster desires to create. Magick can be used to create, protect, and destroy. The three primary Hindu gods for example: Brahma(creator), Vishnu(protecter), and Shiva(destroyer) are a good example of this threefold concept in the universe. However, all three of these gods are believed to be aspects of one diety who is Brahman in the Hindu religion. This is one of the many examples of how magick compares to religion.
And by the way, its not all about spells. Try working with energy manipulation and meditation. Getting used to these two things can make it easier to bring about a desired outcome.

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.
You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.
Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.
So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:
"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman
"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar
Thank you so very much for your post. By the way excellent books. If anyone is reading this, PLEASE heed the advice Lark so kindly posted. I was told that I was a "natural," so of course I jumped headfirst into spell casting. This happened many years ago, and I still have nightmares of the results of my mistakes, arrogance, and backfires. I learned the hard way how fortunate I am to be sitting here (in excellent health and with a loving husband of 26 years) thanking Lark for her post.
Blessed Be,
Dawn
Also a warning before you start casting spells, even if you have good intentions, they can still backfire. I did a sleeping spell that completely backfired once and kept me up all night. Intention and concentration are key. Try to keep the right energy around you while you cast the spell. For example, focus on peace and restfulness if you're trying to do say, that sleeping spell I failed at.
Before I ever cast my first spell, I felt I was "called" to purge my body of impurities. I went vegetarian for a while, ate plenty of whole grains, green leaves, abstained from overly processed foods, and any kind of meat except salmon. This is kind of an extreme example, but I strongly feel you should prepare your body, mind, and soul before you cast a soul.
