which is better

well i have had an really good idea form a debate in chatter. and it raises a good point. which is better. practicle first or theory when it comes to spells?

I think we need a little bit of both.

Develop a theory. Practice as if you were to test the theory. The more you practice, the more you adjust the theory to the results of your practice. Sometimes the theory will adjust in ways that suggest adjusting the practice.

It might be a different matter if you mean Tradition or traditional orthodoxy instead of Theory.

In my opinion this is a bit like asking which came first, the chicken or the egg.

Personally I think that the two must go hand in hand. It is a good idea to study the basics of magic so that you understand how and why it works and what is necessary in order to successfully cast spells.

But at the same time that you are studying you need to be practicing those same basics such as visualization, focus, energy manipulation, etc.

You can't cast a successful spell without having mastered the basics, and you can't begin to learn the basics without understanding what magic is and how it works.

Add them together as one and you have a stronger bolt to zap with.
