Threefold law question

If I curse an object to keep it safe and someone steals it and reaps the misfortune of the curse will the three fold law have affect on me? Since it wasn't my fault they took it and my intention is to keep the object safe and punish the ones who take it

You're over-thinking it. You're the only one who can answer that. There are very few hard rules to magick. And anyway, cursing objects never ends well. Trust me, nobody's going to break in and steal it, and you don't REALLY want to curse your brother or sister for messing with your stuff. Toss a couple of wards on it and hide it well, and you'll be fine.
