Possessed Skull
By:
So I went for a walk earlier today and I found a coyote skull. It was missing a few teeth but other than that it was in good shape. I decided to take it home and put it on my shelf in my closet which also doubles as an alter. After a while I started to feel really sick and I was trying to find out why. I've had trouble with negative entities before and I thought about the skull. When I opened the door and located the skull I immediately felt this wave of agression wash over me. I felt like the skull was staring at me and it just looked evil. I quickly took it outside and buried it with some salt but that hasn't really helped much. I'm planning on taking it back where I found it tomorrow since it's dark where I am. Can someone explain to me what happened? Was the skull possessed or cursed or something? I'm still kinda new so if my two conclusions sound stupid I'm sorry but that's all I can think of. I would also appreciate some help on how to get this feeling of nasty malevolence out of my room and away from me.

You know you could've just felt sick because you picked up a coyote skull and it was probably covered in germs, you don't need to assume it's something magick related. It could be a negative spirit on the skull but keep in mind it could just be a mundane issue.

You just found a random skull laying around and decided to take it home? Congratulations - you got sick because of Bacteria, go see your local doctor and dispose of the skull in the wild (Or where you found it)

It seems mundane angles have already been covered, and I agree heartily that you might want to get checked for something you might have picked up germ-wise from the skull. Even if the animal itself was healthy when it died, rotting flesh and unclean bone develops some nasty stuff.

The only spiritual reason I can imagine for you picking up a negative or angry shadow from a random skull would be if the spirit of the fox felt disrespected. Native american and other shamanistic/aboriginal practices generally have a process for recognizing the item found as a gift.

It starts with asking permission to remove the item (or piece) you want, lifting it from its place, wrapping it in something clean and sacred, and giving thanks through some sort of offering. This could be fresh tobacco, burning incense, prayer, or singing the spirit to the other world (or singing to invite it to teach you as a totem or guide). Then you would want to pay further respect by cleaning, preserving, or otherwise protecting the item from further degradation.

Each of these steps serve a spiritual role in recognizing the value of what you have found, and ensuring that you are taking and using it for a specific valid purpose. After all, if it is worth having then it is worth committing the effort to deserve it. And finally it helps to appease (and maybe even gain the assistance of) the spirit it originally belonged to.

Also, some of these steps help to ensure you keep both yourself and the skull physically safe from infection or damage. Though I would add wearing gloves and at least a dust mask until the skull has been properly and fully cleaned/preserved. At that point you could feasibly polish the bone. Then, optionally and with the spirits permission and/or guidance you could paint it or carve shallow runes. Either way should reflect traits meaningful to the animal as a totem, and meaningful to yourself as traits you want to emulate in life.

If all other mundane causes are ruled out then it might be a good idea to form a sort of apology by recreating those respects as best you can, and then respectfully returning it to where it came from. If the spirit accepts the apology (it helps to actually say you are sorry as well, and describe what you learned from the mistake) it should leave on its own.

Heck, if the spirit is understanding or impressed, it may even provide you with some sense of forgiveness and/or insight that will say you can keep it. You might feel a lifting of the heaviness or a sense of warmth or kindness replacing the hostility before you return the skull. If that happens then you can certainly once again ask permission to keep it. Just be sure to honor the response if you get one, and always assume silence as a 'no' and finish returning the skull.

... If you do get some sort of affirmative towards keeping the skull after-all, I would still recommend -highly- that you seal it somewhere airtight and safe, packed with some sage or sweetgrass for respect, until you can research how to properly disinfect, clean, and preserve bone. You will need to follow through on that as you wouldn't want to make yourself ill if you haven't already, nor would you want to re-offend the spirit by not holding true to the promise of respect.

I also want to make sure that you know that I understand it's very likely its mundane, I just didn't consider it since I'm rather carful and washed my hands every time I touched it.

It is your mind messing with you that you felt the wave of aggression, it has nothing to do with the skull. It wasn't a good idea to even touch the skull in the first place, it was in the wild with loads of bacteria. It would be smart to see a doctor and put gloves on and get rid of the coyote skull immediately.

Get rid of? You could also boil and bleach it. There are plenty of helpful instructions online.
