In my relatively short time on this site I've noticed a mindset of sorts that everyone seems to cling to, it's not a bad one so please don't get offended anyone. A lot of other practicioners are stuck on following set paths that others have laid out before them. Now, I understand the human's innate desire to feel as if they are a part of a whole, we are social creatures after all. What I don't see often is people who are interested in truly diving into the nature of the forces we attempt to work with. I guess the most realistic way I can explain my main thought is this: Why is it that we can advance further in physical technology yet not in magickal studies? I've been hesitant overall to look on the internet as it's not often the most reliable for information and I haven't yet seen any books that delve further into this topic. If anyone else is interested in this then feel free to reply, or if someone has any books they'd recommend that touch on this subject, I think that would be helpful both to myself as well as to the community as a whole.
I will try my very best to quench your inquisitive thirst for answers!
"In my relatively short time on this site... "
Stick around for a long time and you will ineluctably perceive that there are a great deal of people with a sapiential and "unique" mindset which tardily but naturally slid into their consciousness through 'personal experience/encounters' with no clingy thingy involved.
"A lot of other practicioners are stuck on following set paths that others have laid out before them...."
The word 'stuck' is awry in that concept.
Most follow the path laid out before them not because they are 'stuck' on that path but because 'that path has in it the lessons, trials and gifts they are yet to be a part of - It all boils down to Freewill,my friend.
" What I don't see often is people who are interested in truly diving into the nature of the forces we attempt to work with... "
Actually,Some people dive into the nature of those forces out of curiosity/purpose but they (will) 'always see but a line in the whole drawing' ;Just a tiny dotted colour in the whole rainbow.
The Human nature is incompetent to fully comprehend what strongly envelopes his infinite existence.
When you start diving into the nature of every force you work with - You tend to lose the big picture.
This isn't science,Sir.
The (forces) will always elude our understanding no matter how much we think we know about them.
"Why is it that we can advance further in physical technology yet not in magickal studies?... "
What made you think we aren't" advancing in magickal studies??
Why do you think most beings are here on SOM?
If you don't mind giving an instance - That would be nice
"I've been hesitant overall to look on the internet as it's not often the most reliable for information... "
There's an element of truth in 'everything'.
Read widely and you will be gather the truth you seek yourself.
" I haven't yet seen any books that delve further into this topic..."
You haven't! - I have, I have seen a lot of books on that,Actually; and it is on the Internet.
Keep checking - You sure are missing something.
I will leave others to give you the answers you seek as my opinion might not align with the perception you seek.

Just to quickly comment on your "stuck on a path" thing, because I don't have the time to dive into this, I have to disagree. I have been on and off this site for nearly 10 years I believe. And the one thing that has always drawn me back is the eclectic community. The site is filled with people who have walked down many paths, and pull from all of them in their practice.
I always believe it is good for someone to start with a path, learn from it, and take what they see fit. If they feel the need to move on, then it is wonderful for them to do so. If they do not, they should stay on that path.
Religion and spirituality, to me, is a situation of "If the shoe fits, wear it". Some of us tend to make entire outfits with pieces of different practices.
I think the longer you are on this site the more you will understand and appreciate the eclectic side of this community.
I guess I shouldn't have said short time, specifically I started gleaning information from the site when I was 12 so it's been a few years. Tolmjoe, to answer your question, I see some of the fundamentals being studied through quantum physics but from my studies on that topic it has shown what we work with but not how it works. I feel as if to further advance our collective knowledge of magick it would be necessary to understand the how, not just the what. Most of the scientific community sees these topics as pseudoscience and don't take it quite as seriously as physical things. As you and PixieSpirit mentioned, I'm surprised I haven't seen that side of the website yet. I suppose I should specify that when I refer to "typical paths" I simply mean how some people specifically study neo-druidism or heathenism, herbalism or crystal magick, working *with* gods, spirits, demons and the like. Now, there's nothing wrong with any of those studies as they've helped me grow and learn immensely, I just wonder if there is not more to our universe that we can still learn, even with our limited understanding of the universe. You mentioned how you've seen multiple books on the topic, would you or anyone else be interested in name dropping a few? I've searched around before but I can only assume I was close to finding what I'm looking for when I stopped.
What you are looking for cannot be found, it must simply be learned. The fact of the matter is, people are largely so stigmatized by society regarding what is possible or not, that they do not bother to think beyond what is apparent. Yes, there are books on what you seek, they are chemistry /biology books.. Scientists have discovered quantum process already, that means they are catching up to the magical side of things. At that point, be wary, for absolute power corrupts absolutely.
