Im wonder if shrooms have any spiritual connection at all ive never done them before but ive heard things and it seems to open your mind and such. Are they good for spirit and mind?, or just some fun drug
Some of the Indigenous Peoples of the American Southwest use mushrooms (peyote) in their spiritual practices. And it is pretty common throughout South America. You might want to read "Way of the Shaman" by Michael Harner for a viewpoint on the use of psychodelics.
You will note in Harner's writing that some of these drugs can have nasty side effects and should only be used if you have someone there to help you if you get into trouble.
You will need an experienced sitter, who is trained to provide first aid, first of all. Second, he or she must be really skilled in managing people who have reached altered states of mind, and preferably, this should be paired with some psychic/trance/mediumship/energetic/shamanistic abilities.
It is common misconception that everyone can handle same dose. Some people, who have kidney or liver issues might not handle well even doses considered safe for their age and weight group. If things get worse fast, you might need paramedics to handle the situation, and given the idea that for most people this substances are prohibited for personal use, there is going to be a lot to explain afterwards to doctors and police.
Another thing to keep in mind is that these plants/mushrooms can cause very bad trips, which can cause a psychotic episode, in some predisposed individuals because the brain starts working in not logical state of mind, and sometimes the sense of reality is lost. In the event of bad psychotic episode, you will need urgent medical attention. Past traumas might come back and hit you really, really hard. Anything hidden might come to surface good and bad, and you have zero selective control over this. This is why you need a sitter to attend to your physical, emotional and energetic needs and to handle you in case you decide to harm yourself or someone else just because what you thought was real was not.
Psychedelics substances are often seen as short cuts to achieving altered states of mind real fast, but this comes with a price. Developing trance ability might take many years for some people, but this trains their discipline, willpower and resolve and inner self-knowledge, so you are better prepared for the challenges these states might pose for you. On other hand with instant access you might not be prepared to face inner demons and hidden truths about yourself that can leave you scared for some time.
Developing trance skills with time rewires your brain and you can get access to the state quickly at any time and prepares you for the pros and cons existing within it. Achieving it instantly through a mediator comes with whole another set of complications and should not be done on your own or in company of some random, unprepared friends.
Using these things is also illegal in most Western countries, so there is this complication too. Some Native Nations are exempt, as it is part of their religion/faith. This is not the case for most other folks.
Never ever just take any mind altering substances on your own, even if you are absolutely convinced that the dose you are taking is safe. Not everyone metabolizes same substances same way, and if things go South you might end up hurting yourself or others.
My partner once had to tackle down an individual that was high on something with 3 other strong men because the dude was convinced he is Superman and can fly and was about to jump from the balcony of his 5th story apartment. 4 grown up men had to hold him down to prevent this as he will not listen to reason. Not sure on what substance he was. Should not have been there, he would have died for sure.
