can love spells go wrong?

i know a person who did a soul bonding spell. It was voodoo i guess they drank each other blood, the spell says when it work they will be soul bonded and they shall die together, but one of them died and the other did not. I want to know if this has to do with the spell as if it took a wrong turn, or the spell did not work at all for. Info the other partner who still a live has some dreams about their dead partner on their birth day. pleas help me understand

No spell will cause two people to die at the same time, whatever that may or may not imply, whether it's living until old age together, or if it causes one person to die when the other happens to die no matter how untimely.
