Dames Blanches

Dames Blanches or white ladies, ladies in white are a faery found in Normandy folklore. Appearing as women dressed in white garb this spirit is found across many cultures.

Specific to Normandy this fae can be malevolent or not. They appear often in areas where one passes, bridges, cave entrances, roadsides, paths and other such areas. The folklore is if upon sighting one should appease them in order to pass. This often involves dancing for them. If one dances for the Dames Blanches they are rewarded with the ability to pass unharmed and perhaps other favor. If upon sighted appeasement is not given the Dames Blanches can become malicious.

It is said upon a bridge if one does not honor the Dames Blanches it can end up in being thrown off, or aside.
