Here is a biggest key lesson I have learned: If you have to ask then you need to study more about it instead of trying to do it.
Do you know how to close the gate when done? Do you know how to protect yourself? Do you know how to address a spirit? Do you know how to not have an evil spirit come through? Is there a reason for them to come? Do you have an offering? So many questions to be considered....
It is always important to be cautious with what you're doing especially with summoning & talking to spirits. I am a firm believer that there are forces beyond our control and understanding. You could open a gate that you did not mean to open. A negative thought could slip in and something you didn't want came through. Spirits are like people, they should be respected.
You should always be polite (use your manners like welcoming them, saying good bye, being respectful, etc), make sure you are focused and have clear intentions, protect your space, and know what you're doing.
You shouldn't summon them for the fun of it. You can call upon them and ask them to come, but summoning sounds rather forceful in my opinion. It is like when working with a deity. You may call upon and ask for a deity's aid, but you can't summon & demand they show up. That would be seen as disrespectful. It is like someone having this button that summons you whenever they wanted you. You wouldn't like that. I believe the same applies for spirits.
The spirit world is always communicating with us. There are also multiple ways to communicate with spirits. Some people might use a pendulum and sway that pendulum over a spirit board, some people pray, others might use an ouija board, etc. The possibilities are out there and span throughout many cultures.
There might be simple ways to do this but those simple ways mean nothing if you don't know what you're doing. When you know what you're doing, you might find simple ways are not the best ways and may not care for the simple ways anymore.
