When something is happening by a tree an you want to oberve it up close but cant, concentrate really hard and focus on the tree then say:

       Great large triumphant tree, 

         Switch thy eyes with thee.

            So Mote It Be!

How do I exit the tree?

If this works I think it's more you stand still and people overlook you, not you become a literal tree. My friend use to do something similar when we would play manhunt [hide and seek at night] he would hide in a bush and ground his energy so we would walk right past him.

You cannot switch spirits with a tree to spy on people. You could try an invisibility spell to hide your energy, or astral projection.
