Some tips about summoning are: Don't summon invite a deity or spirit. Do not summon a demon. They are the most easy to call. Also because of this they are more dangerous. Invite don't summon. Summoning is basically tearing them from their realm. You better have a good reason to summon them.
Sending a request during meditation or putting together an offering is a respectful way to garner their attention. It's very similar or exactly like a prayer. If they decline or don't respond to you, don't pressure them, simply leave it be and come back later.
There are a bunch of ways to invite a deity. Personally, I set up an altar, light a candle, leave an offering they would like and then talk to them. Something like ''I light this candle in honour of *deity*. Please accept this offering of *items* I'm Neko and I wish to work with you because *reasons* I am willing to walk this path with you and provide my devotion to you as best as I can.'' next, I would meditate for a time, then snuff out the candle and say something like ''Thank you *deity* for hearing my words. Return home in peace. I shall await your answer, whatever it may be. Blessings to you *deity*'' after that I spend the next couple of days being as present as possible and observing my surroundings for a sign from the deity.

You can also pray to them or simply talk with them at your altar. If you wish to contact a deity, learn about them. Once you know who they are and what they like, set up an altar in their honour, place an offering for them and call to them. You can used a prayer that has already been written, write your own, or be spontaneous. If you cannot have a permanent altar, there are still plenty of options for you to contact a deity. You can speak to them out loud or in your head. You can contact them through meditation, astral projection, divination, trance, dreams and many other options. All you need is you.
