Hello, I am posting several posts on Hinduism I will be starting on the etymology of it, for those who don't know the word etymology means to trace a word back to it's origins often it brings out clues.

The word "Hindu" originally derives from the Sanskrit word "Sindhu" referring to the Indus river, it's first mentioned in the Rig Veda. The term Hinduism was introduced into the English language in the 19th century to denote the religious, philosophical, and cultural traditions native to India.

In and around the 13th century Hindustan was introduced as an alternative for India, Hindustan meant "land of the Hindus"
