Note: This is mostly copy + paste from a forum post I made in the past couple of days, with a little added commentary that wasn't relevant to the actual topic

A hot topic right now is "your element," which basically refers to the belief that every person is especially connected to one of the elements of nature. Personally, I do not believe this is true, due to the fact that we are made up of and always will be embodiments of all the elements. We actually don't know if the Druids believed that each person had one element, or if the elements were supposed to connect us to nature, in that air is our breath, water is our blood, fire is our warmth, and earth is our body. However, this text or "prayer," as it could be called, was found written in ancient Irish and is speculated to pre-date Christianity: I arise today through the strength of heaven, light of sun, brilliance of moon, splendor of fire, speed of lightning, swiftness of wind, depth of sea, stability of earth, firmness of rock This text actually suggests a belief in nine elements rather than the four of five commonly used in Wicca or Neo-Paganism. This poem or prayer suggests that the Druids did believe that we are all composed of and share the properties of all nine elements. There are other interpretations of elements that go straight down to atomic structure, implying that all matter is based off the same core "idea" or "model," referring to the atom. However, the molecular structure of our body, for example, is quite different from the molecular structure of a tree, which is a common representation of the earth element. This is where the argument becomes faulty, since it really isn't the same at all. Scientifically, our body is not the same as a tree, but metaphorically and spiritually it is; our bodies are made of natural matter that comes from the natural matter of our parents, their parents, and so on. This statement begs the question: what is the beginning, anyway? Spiritually, this could be answered using the elements, but scientifically we don't exactly know. This is where science and spirituality come together for me. Where did the blood that so closely resembles red water come from?

Questions or comments either destesting or adding onto my argument are encouraged.

Blessed be,

E
