Cup your right hand around your right ear and say: "Some sounds are here and some sounds are astray so give me the hearing of far away." To stop the spell, just un-cup your hand and take it off of your ear and shake your head a little.

First fill the tub with the water and place the stick in it (the stick should be hollowed out beforehand). Second take the stick make sure there's water in it. A Russians method for calling lost animals home involves journeying to a crossroads where, magically speaking at least, roads merge and separate and you never know who or what might turn up from any direction at anytime.

Go to crossroads, then face west, the direction of the setting sun. Bow from the waist nine times. Do this three times, for a total of 27 bows, calling the animal as you normally would, and also chant prayers , petitions and recite sacred texts. Don't stop calling and/or petitioning until three series of nine bows are each complete, then take ten steps backwards without turning round. Turn around and go home.

This Russian coffin spell is superficially similar to the New Orleans based one discussed later under public hexes, but is actually very different.
