Twilight isn't ruining the occult world. Don't get me wrong, I'm against Twilight and all it's subtle misleading, but I wouldn't give it that much credit. At the most, it's lowering the standards of literature and proving that pubescent girls will eat up anything with similar characteristics.
It may ruin the dark and mysterious image of traditional vampires. I recall a friend telling me they went to some sort of Dracula stage production and she heard a girl say, "It's just hard to get used to seeing vampires as bad."
I don't see anything directly occult related because I myself wouldn't consider vampires or werewolves as occult.
I agree with you but i think i should tell you what i meant by what i said.
When these kids go out and see the movie they want to be these characters...the occult is the closest thing to being able to do that...so they come to sites like this one and play make believe because they dont want to put any real effort into developing true abilities...and its not just with this website...i spoke to my little bro the other day who is in 9th grade and he said that more and more kids in schools are claiming to be involved in witchcraft and the occult...however these kids know very little about the occult and just spit off stuff about being vamps and werewolves during the night. When that happens it changes peoples opinions on us...now our image is changing in a bad way...we are going from being feared because of supposed satanic worship to being looked at as fools and all because of kids who want to be like edward cullen.
So i ask again...does anyone else think twilight is ruining the occult?
Ah, I see what you mean. Well, I'm not sure, I think a lot of things can do that. I suppose there are those who will turn to the occult as some way to try to become a vampire or werewolf. We'll just have to teach these people what we really do and set them straight when they come along.
I get pelted with questions every day on this topic and i try to address them as best i can but as soon as they hear that it cant be done(at least not they want) they get ticked off. Ive been trying for a while to try and show people the truth about magick but i feel its people like me loosing the battle to the mainstream media.
I wouldn't say the occult world, as it seems to be more associated with magic than vampires, at least to my knowledge. I would say it is giving the vampire community a bad reputation, however.
Also, Twilight only seems to be "ruining" the occult world to you because it's the leading subject of role players or at least in the top 5.
You will be, we all will be, "pelted" with questions on such a subject to become something else by the same number of people whether or not Twilght even exists. Most of them are Twilight wannabes but if Twilight weren't there, they'd all just find something else to obsess about.
Most people associate vamps with the occult. After all the definition of occult is:
1. Of, relating to, or dealing with supernatural influences, agencies, or phenomena.
2. Beyond the realm of human comprehension; inscrutable.
3. Available only to the initiate; secret: occult lore. See Synonyms at mysterious.
4. Hidden from view; concealed.
Its not just witchcraft. The vampire community is very much a part of the occult.
