The Druid Path.

I have not seen many refrences to the Druid path on here as of yet so I thought I would make a few notes about the basics for anyone who was interested in exploreing this path. I will leave out for the time being history and philosphy.

The ritual tools for a Druid are the pretty much the same as normal witchcraft tools. We use a wand or staff to represent Air. This should be cut or taken from a live tree or found at least outside in nature. Thats not to say that other types can't be used. As with all tools the most power will come from your own input in their construction and makeup so design how you want.

The traditional Athamae used in witchcraft can be used but by tradition Druids used a small sickle to represent Fire. You can usually find these in hardware stores or new age shops.

The Chalice or Cup is used to represent Water.

And for Earth a Stone from nature is used. Volacanic or black rock is very good for this purpose especially ones that hold their heat after sitting in the sun for a long peroid of time.

The tools are usually kept in a wodden box of some sort covered in a silk cloth when they are not in use.

Druids belonged to a religion called Druidism it is a mix of magic and potions, they are connected to Celtic religion, they first appeared of what Julius Caesar describes that they were "administrators" during rituals of human sacrifice, for which criminals were usually used, and that the method was through burning in a wicker man.

Most of Druids were on the teritories of today's Northern France and Britain...

Now some say that they were the first magic users...

Yes the Romans did indeed make record of the Druids but that is believed to be biased information as many Roman writings were of areas that they conqured. Yes to my knowledge they were Celtic in design but there are British records of their existence as well and some of their teachings are embedded into the stories of Comolot and King Aruther for which Merlin was a Druid.

Also even though there are no official ties to the Druids it is believed by some that Stone Henge was also a Druid construct and there are a few such structures that dot the english countryside.

No. Cavemen were practicing magic with the items that they wore and the painting that they drew.

So cavemen did not have a religion? No specific religion can claim they were the first to use magic. Evidence of magic practice can be found in many locations around the world dating back to the earliest of human civilization. Even in Sumeria the first civilization know to us.

Well since the high point of the Egyptian empire came well before the high point of the Roman Empire it is hard to say that Druids were the first to make magick a part of their religion. They do date back to midevil times though so they defenitly came before Wicca and some of the newer age religions.

In Mesopotamia there was a matriarchal social group that is the oldest religion/civilization known. Of course it isn't the first. They would tie men to trees and sacrifice them for fertility rituals. They believed their blood would make them pregnant. Men were slaves and used for pleasure. They didn't put together that the "pleasure" caused the pregnancy.

That was way before the Druids. I picked up that fact in a sociology class about 10 years ago.

Shamanism in all regions was the first "religion" and it was abound longer than we can imagine.

Dillion, it would be nice to see a few sources. From what I've researched, Druidism as it is known now is 99% reconstructed because the Druids themselves were entirely secretive and didn't write down anything. They did however share the Celtic religion. But what we know of them was from spectators that wrote down what they saw, which isn't very good sources.
