making a Spirit Board?

Hello all! im thinking about making a Spirit Board, and just wanted to find out what things i need to take into account ie: type of wood, planchette, letters & numbers ect.

birch, oak, maple, cedar are some good choices. this site should help you figure out what works best for you:

planchette should be made out of the same wood, you could put a crystal on it, use a crystal, or whatever, as long as it slides. a very important thing you should keep in mind be sure you can read the letters and numbers, since the spirit is communicating through you, you need to know what it says. also, consider adding 'yes' 'no' 'maybe' [a good one in my opinion] and defiantly 'goodbye' or you might trap the spirit and though it wants to leave, it can't let you know. if you feel other common words should be there, go for it, but normally, that's all you need.

be sure you make it smooth, you could use a stain or something to make it smooth, because the other problem is the planchette being unable to move. your finders are hovering just above it, not resting on it, so you're not pushing it everywhere. you could also try putting a piece of glass over it, and some glass marble like things [most fish tanks have] on the bottom. but this can prove tricky as well. my friend got this gorgeous Ouija Board, but it didn't slide well. not sure if it's the glass or the pretty Gothic writing nobody could read.
