Welcome!

The best way I've heard it put is by Christopher Penczak: people think that magic is a science, but it's not. It won't work the same way for every single person if you just get ABC materials together and do step one, step two, step three.

It doesn't work that way.

Magic requires a connection with the universe for it to work.

This is my favorite tutorial:

Welcome to Spells of Magic, this site holds a variety of different paths, now since you are new to all this, I believe you should start with the basics, the you can find most of the basics in the Articles and Forums, now here are some of the things you should look for: Meditation (Or in the Articles this is called Meditation: Void or Chakra Meditation), Centering, Grounding, ..etc.

spell cast is something you should do a little latter. you don't just wave your hand and say a few words and it all works out. walk before you run. you need to understand a few thing before trying spells, such as how they work and why. magick is energy, so if you didn't charge any energy you're just reading some words by candlelight. you also need focus [which is why so many say meditation is important] if you cannot focus all your energy at the task at hand, the energy can get a little confused. say you're casting a spell for a friend, while you cast your mind wanders to the argument you had with your sibling, the energy will be split in two and this will change the spell. thirdly, you need to understand what spells are and how they work, because real magick isn't the same as seen in Harry Potter or read in faerie tales.

those should help you learn the basics and about magick. there is plenty more to read, but this should provide a starting point. regarding what coven, some covens require X amount of years of study, while others are teaching covens accepting any level of knowledge into the coven. read the covens profile, perhaps mail the leader or a council member some questions before applying. blessed be.

Well, if you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.

You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.

Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.

So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:

"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman

"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar

"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson

"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

Welcome to som. To start read some articles on spell casting. Join the coven that fits you the most. All spells require energy. To apply to a coven you must mail the application to the priest or priestess. Sometimes both. Hope this helps. :)

Warring! most of the stuff here are fake and they are going to mislead you, hurt yourself, or end up in a asylum. make sure to ask someone that has experience on whatever you wanna do.

The first thing that you need to know, and what all beginners need to know, is that there is not one single doctrine about how magic works, and that different sources give different explanations. The following webpage gives an overview of the contrasting doctrines about magic: http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/magicandspellwork/f/HowMagicWorks.htm
