Herbal Jewellery

Mojo bags can be cumbersome and need constant re-charging, herbal teas are short term and often tricky to make; herbal jewellery allow you to take the magickal proporties of herbs, crystals and sigils around with you, whenever you need it.

With a small collection of ingredients, you can make a reliable, wearable magickal item, that can you when you need it most.

Ingredients:

- Locket or Vial Necklace
- A collection of herbs related to your desired effect
- Crystals with the magickal proporties desired
- A piece of paper and a pen

Method

Personally I find lockets the best to use, but this is only because they look completely mundane, you can walk around with a magickal necklace on and people will never notice, but if you want something larger, or cheaper to buy then vial necklaces can be a good option. They can be interchanged, easily cleaned for re-use and can be bought cheaply in large quantities.

I would recommend cleaning the piece before use, saging it if you would like, to ensure that all previous energies have been removed; this allows a completely "pure" magickal item without a mixture of energies.

Next select dried herbs that have the proporties you are looking for, for example I have used this method for concentration and focus during exams and so have chosen herbs relating to this topic. On this site there are many articles on herbs and their proporties, or there are great books you can purchase such as Scott Cunninghams: Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs, available on Amazon.

Using a pestle and mortar grind the herbs you choose to use together, ensuring you have enough to fill the locket of vial, but not too large an amount to waste large amounts. For hard herbs, such as juniper berries, I suggest taking some time to grind the herbs individually untill they reach a fine, blendable consistancy, but for most pre-ground herbs you will only need to mix them. Many herbs can be collected yourself and dried, but for those that cannot be found in your area, you can purchase them both online and in physical stores, some can even be found in supermarkets.
Note: Please ensure that the herbs are safe to touch and use.

Once ground or mixed to the right quantity, add these to your locket or vial.

Alongside the herbs you can use crystal chippings, these can be bought in large quantities or relatively cheaply at metaphysical suppliers or from ebay. It is best to choose crystals that have a correspondense to the desired effect, or you can use clear quartz as an alternative.

You can add several of the same chipping, or a variety of different crystals to give you a mixture of proporties, I tend to add them in "magickal numbers", such as 3's or 7's. For a small locket or vial, three is probably enough dependant on the size of chipping.

Once added I suggest adding a sigil or rune, to personalise your desire. Sigils can be made yourself based on a collection or words, for example you can make a sigil from the words "Concentration and focus", turning it into a single sigil that you can place on a small piece of paper, these can be put in whole (if small enough), or folded/rolled if you are running out of room. There are probably several articles or forum posts on sigil making or you can find books or webpages on this topic.

Alternatively you can add runes (my personal preferance), lists of runes and their meanings can be found online and can be a quick technique rather than creating sigils by hand.

The final step is to seal up the vial or locket and "breathe" energy and intent into it. To do this I cup it in my hands and physically "breathe" my intent into it, everytime you feel the energy dropping you can repeat this. Once done you can wear it as often as you need it, you may even find that wearing it, charges it to a degree.

If you wish to dismantle the necklace at any point, I would recommend cleansing both the crystals the the locket/vial so you can use them again.

NB: I would not recommend getting the pieces wet, as any water getting into the locket or vial will cause the herbs to rot and the paper sigil/rune to ruin.

I really hope this helps someone, I found this to be a very useful technique that makes herbal/crystal magick more of an everyday practice and less of.

Best of Luck.
Arabella.

I love this post. Thank you for sharing!

I've done similar things in the past with stones or oils I have. I used to have a locket shaped in the head of a wolf (to symbolize Fenrir). It was able to hold a small amount of oils, so I would blend my own scents together and add them to the locket and wear it throughout the day.

I also found that I could make my own necklace to hold stones by taking metal wire and bending it in a circular fashion so that it created a globe. You could pull the metal open enough to slip a specific stone inside, then close it again. It was easy to hook up to a chain.

Looked a lot like:

You could do the same with sinew or rope:
