Forgot Lucid Dreaming

I used to have quite a lot of lucid dreams back in 2010, but I can't seen to really activate one like I had once did. Sure, I could become concious when I knew what was going on but I usually get too motivated and as soon as I make a physical movement, it's all lost.

I don't know what I was exposed to in 2010 in Virginia, but what ever it was, it allowed me to have a lot of lucid dreams, and is it possible to lose that skill? Perhaps my reaction to these things have changed since then, and made it harder for me to experience it more often?

How do you guys set yourselves up for Lucid Dreaming? Anything special before going to bed, and anything afterwards? I usually try to think within the dream, and play along with the thoughts i was having, instead of the method that many people say to look around at a clock or something because that makes me wake up usually, because its most likely objects that would never be in my dream anyway, and steers my thoughts to purposely think about those things instead of trying to keep the dream on track? I don't know if that makes sense or not.

I usually set alarms on my phone at certain times each day that remind me to do a reality check. Also, remember that just because you do a reality check in a lucid dream or play around with your thoughts mean you'll become lucid. You have to be genuinely curious, genuinely questioning your state of conciousness. Try and treat yourself like you are dreaming, don't mindlessly expect to do a quick reality check and find yourself to be awake. Never, ever assume you are awake. Remember, guilty until proven innocent, asleep until proven awake. A lot of people do it the opposite way, awake until proven asleep— that approach often leads you to do a reality check in a dream and still remain unaware.

Ideas for reality checks:
- jump and see if you land normally or just float down
- pinch your nose and close your mouth. can you still breathe?
- look at numbers on a clock or a microwave, look away and look back. if it's a dream, it will likely change.
- critically examine what others are saying around you. is it logical? does it make sense? would these people normally be saying things like that in a situation like this?
- look closely at your own hand to make sure that it doesn't bend or curve oddly.
- search for a piece of text and read it. if you are dreaming, it may change if you look back, or just be a bunch of gibberish
- look in a mirror. is your reflection strange? is it you? is your reflection even there?
- check out the shadows around you to see if they move differently or reflect oddly.

Perform these reality checks regularly every day, but don't do them if you're not truly curious about whether or not you're dreaming. Oh, and once you become lucid, try not to get too excited about it, it will probably wake you up. Anyways, I've been having the same sort of trouble with my lucid dreams, and I'm trying to get back into it. Hope this helps C:

Thanks for the reply! Anyway I don't know, I guess I have to really just explore the world and ease into becoming lucid. Most of my dreams don't have microwaves or anything but I guess I can use other methods to check. Such as when I was in a dream where it became lucid while I was feeling the fur of this giant gray fox/wolf-like creature, and then began to control and ride it, without any saddles or anything, but like the animal was connected to me as I rode it and it felt really cool. What made it lucid was feeling the actual surroundings out for me, and made it real(aware)

Cool. I've been trying to pick up lucid dreaming again as a way to talk face to face with my god. He's been really frustrated with me cuz I can't do astral projection yet ;-;

Almost all my dreams are lucid dreams, and it has been that way as long as I can remember. Usually I let the dream flow how it wants, but I know I am sleeping and that I could control the dream if I wanted too. Usually the only time I change/control my dreams is when I am having a nightmare.

Lucid dreaming is a skill I cannot master, but when it happens it's pretty cool. I do notice if I live out in nature a bit more, like not in the concrete jungle I'm in now, it happens much easier. There's probably something with the universe being open. There great though I've been able to control dreams, but I've been able to catch glimpses 8 things that are going to happen still. There's an American Dad episode where Steve the son lucid dreams and his "que" was a red ball bouncing by......

Thats probably why it was so easy back in 2010, I was living in very, very rural Virginia.

Most of my inspiration as far as magick goes, has been almost impossible to work with, such of the likes of dry and crumbling clay is near impossible to work with.

I've been longing to get back to nature for a long time, and I've yearned maybe a little too much for a bare-bones camping trip somewhere upstate. -sigh- But not enough time haha
