Divination-Tips'n'Tricks

I figured we could all benefit from a forum like this.
There are so many methods of divination, some of the smaller tips and tricks (and the larger ones) tend to get lost in the sea of information.
So here is a forum where we can add any tips and tricks for divination techniques, whether that is tarot, runes, pendulums, tea leaves, cartology and more.
Before adding a tip or trick could be all state which divination technique we are aiming this towards, so we all know which to use.
I hope everyone enjoys this thread, it could be of use to many of us.

Tarot -

For a Situation that is not going your way:

Shuffle, pondering the situation, find the Wheel of Fortune card in your deck, the two on either side are the solution to your problem.

To Bring Money to You:

Shuffle, then pull out the 1st, 5th, 10th, 20th and 50th cards , these will tell you how to improve your finances.

To Find the Root of a Romantic Conflict:

Shuffle, before pulling out the lovers card, the two on either side are the conflicts surrounding the relationship.

To Leave Behind Sadness:

Shuffle, then find the moon and the sun cards, the cards between these two are the steps you need to take to move forwards.

To Look into the Near Future:

Shuffle and find your Birth Card (formed by adding together all of your birthday e.g.. 23/5/1832 = 2+3+5+1+8+3+2 = 24. And the resulting double number, 2+4 = 6 = The Lovers). The card underneath your birth card is what is approaching soonest.

I find that these really help me with my castings, they are quick and easy to do.

Playing Cards:

When I wanted to do a "yes" and "no" session, I used the cards to get two colors for each answer, do a bit of tester, and then I would do some "yes" and "no" divination.

Bibliomancy:

One could combine bibliomancy with a bit of "listening" through taking a book divided into sections (like the bible) and ask for a verse, then write down the verse "listened" and then go to the book and find it.

For learning/ remembering tarot card meanings:
- Pick a feature/ image on the card you associate with the meaning this will act as a prompt and jog your memory for remembering the rest of the card. For example: the emperor has a Rams head on the throne and this represents Aires who is the planet Mars the Roman god of war. You can also relate the numbers so again for the emperor is the number 4 and represents structure and stability of the four lines of a square.

- Read for other people the less you know them the better.

- For remembering the court cards: think of the elements.
So the pages are the element of air 'thinking cards'
The Knights are the element of fire 'doing cards'
The queens are the element of water 'emotion cards'
The Kings are the element of earth 'material cards'
Then the suit is just an aspect of the type of court card...
The page of wands is the fire element of air - this could mean someone who acts before they think.
The knight of cups is the water element of fire - he takes into account people's emotions before doing.

Tip for Tarot

Get to know yourself and your deck

With time you will learn that you don't always want to do a reading. Sure you might start with doing reading every day for different people, you'll accept anyone, say what you have to and be done with it.

However has you grow, you start to realise that that's not what will be happening. Some days you really just don't want to. Some days you feel drawn to your cards. Learn when to do readings and when to not do readings.

Not only that but also know your limit. If you read professionally - like me - you should also be careful, when you see a person that's going to you constantly, you need to set a limit of time. Why? Because people may get addicted and that is super bad. Sure maybe you even gain money, but is that really morally correct?

Feeling disconnected

It's important for you to realise that some days you'll be completely off. You won't know what to say, you'll fail, you'll be all over the place. That's normal! You don't always feel connected to things, you don't always enjoy doing things you do constantly. And that is okay! It happens in every single field of your life. Some days you get bored of seeing the same people every day, going to the same job, doing your routine. And that is okay. Trust me, when this happens jsut take some time to yourself. Try to get connected by reading a book about tarot, watching a TV show, researching more, learning, etc..

Tip for Tarot

Here's a little tip when working with tarot and other people!

Keep a glass filled with water, salt and a piece of garlic that has been bitten by you. Yes.. the last person sounds ewish and believe me it is, but it is worth it!

This will cleanse the energies of the person and the deck, so the person won't influence your deck negatively after they leave. After, you should place your cards near or under the glass when not using it.

Tip for Pendulum

For pendulums a easy and simple way of cleansing it is placing it near a Selenite overnight. The crystal will cleanse the energies around it, even the pendulum's.

Or let it stay inside a glass filled with water, salt, garlic ( also bitten ) and vinegar.

Congratulations, I hope you love the deck!

Before doing any readings, I really recommend connecting to your deck by going through each individual card and reflecting on what the imagery means to you. If the deck comes with a guide, I would only look at it and start learning the recommended meanings after you've worked on connecting with the deck on your own. Whether you use the guidebook or not in the end completely depends on you, but I know it can be extremely useful to use your intuition when you're just getting to know a deck.

I also recommend thinking about creating your own spreads, because personalizing every part of your tarot experience can really help you connect with the deck and improve your overall reading experience in general. It can be useful to take inspiration from others if you've never worked with spreads before, so this isn't something you need to do earlier on like the above advice. It's just an idea for future workings if you like :)
