The Alchemist would be drawn to science and chemistry, drawn in a way all through life to the point where he/she may have done bad in science and chemistry in school because it all was to basic and dumbed down for them, this is how the Alchemist will also recognize himself, through his connections to the past..
the alchemist you seek will come to you when the time is right untile than it is useles for you to make threads about it. im sorry to say that but that is how they work

well, I, along with witchary, am an alchemist. (ps I presently learniong about the azoth's role in the dry and wet meothed). idk what you mean "intricate knowlegde that we need" but I can probley help you with whatever problem you have.
i study alchemy
since all the stereotypes around it is believed that "the only goal of alchemy" is to find the "Philosophers stone" which we "never found" in order to just get some "gold"
i will randomly throw an irrational guess that this is what you are looking for
fools! the philosophers stone or more correctly - the Elixir of Life is much more important then what you think his purpose is! it gets you enlightened and turns you much more suprerior and many people DID find it and we call them adepts!
but the process is very hard long expensive and dangerous!

Tails-t - i don't really know any and g doubt that they will work in the first place since you don't usualy see that much immortal people walking around
Immortality is something much more unreachable
If you repeat the same long-living-spell every day you may get some extra five years or so but that's about it
Uriel, wrong on that one, universal elements and chemicals should give you an idea that this is a bit bigger than some quest for immortality, look outside the box or else you will give a foolish reply to something which you do not fully grasp.
yeah... like my man said... Universal was the key word... still if anyone else can help on Universal alchemy... i have gotten a lot of very helpfull mails but am still waiting for one vital piece of the puzzel
