Hi, so to be short, I am put in a situation where the only mean to stop someone from harming is to harm that someone. No other ways, no other more gentle options are left. That person will not stop until I make him, and the only way I can is black magic. But before I do anything, I just tried to inform myself of the possible conséquences (not that they could stop me) and all the articles I found said that forgiveness and other white magic methods are key, that karma will come back to me if I harm someone, that black magic is dangerous. But if I use evil to do good, to stop a greater evil, is that still a bad thing? Isn't it what Knights do with dragons by Killing them and we call them heroes and saviours?
This can depend upon the specific traditions of your spiritual path. For instance, in Wicca the Wiccan Rede states "In eight words the rede's fulfilled, if it harms none do what ye Will" Now, this doesn't mean that you can do "What ever you want" Rather it means do what you intend. For your situation what is determined as "bad" would be harming someone for the sake of harming them. But if you think of it from the perspective of "I don't deserve to be treated badly, so to avenge myself I'm going to cast a spell to make it so this person can not harm me, and that is in the form of causing them pain". The idea is what is your intent? What is the point of this spell? If it's to harm this person then that could be considered bad. But take this example: Let's say I'm a doctor and I need to set a patient's broken bone, yes I am harming them because it's going to hurt when I set their injury but that is required for the healing process. Or if I want to be able to make a garden I need to dig up the soil, disrupt the earth, kill all kinds of bugs, insects, plants, ect. But because my intent is to take advantage of the fertile power of the earth to either make this space more relaxing by planting flowers, or take advantage of the power of the Earth to grow herbs and fruits and vegetables so I can have better food or fresher herbs for my workings. So see, yes I am causing harm but the harm is not the point of the spell. But in the end it comes down to your own morality.
Morality is subjective, and there are two sides to each story [we hear of the brave knight, but not of the Dragon who needed food for their young]
Magick is intention, not colour. To see things in black and white is rather limiting as you miss the moral grey of it all. [have you ever questioned why we accept white equals good and black equals bad? Historically white was "pure" and the ruling class, while black was "impure" and the oppressed. It's just stuck around as an unquestioned rule like pink for girls, or kids don't like broccoli] While I'm not saying go forth and curse people, you should ask yourself what is right and wrong from your morals before you get to the point where you need to curse someone. Many pagans today fall into one of two categories either "rule of three, never curse" or "if you push me, I push back" [I fall into the second group] but you still have those who refuse to curse because they aren't interested in it or those who cast more curses than cures with zero negative effect. The key really is to know your morals and understand the energy.
If you believe curses are wrong under any circumstances, then as difficult the situation you are in may be, you need to find a new way around it [be a passive aggressive witch, bless everyone around them] remember, someone will always be harmed, so ask yourself how much harm you're fine with. [a job spell for yourself means another person not getting hired] If you believe curses are fine, how far are you willing to take it? In a recent Patheos article, John Beckett used a Wonder Woman quote to determine what you should do when contemplating curses "don't kill if you can wound, don't wound if you can subdue, don't subdue if you can pacify, and don't raise your hand at all until you've first extended it." So take a moment and ask yourself honestly, what is best in your situation? [I assume you tried extending a hand, did you try a binding or freezer spell to stop their actions in your life? If that didn't work, I would try a curse to wound them]
Now, as for your "what's the worst that could happen" question, it really depends. To curse, you charge negative energy and emotion into your space. Even after you release it, energy will linger in your space, so you need to cleanse it or it can build up and harm you. A few other things to consider is the moon phase [it's currently the waning moon so you're fine] while not everyone follows the moon phase, the natural flow of energy can making certain spells easier/harder. If the energy is coming towards you and you try sending out a curse, it could blow up in your face [the energy of the curse just hangs around your home and effects you instead of the target because you didn't put enough energy in to push against the current] The other thing you should consider is any unique energy at the time [we got out of Mercury retrograde a month ago and the energy is flipped on its head. While most retrograde periods don't bother me, the last one was really bad and casting at that time could have made the spell backfire]
I've cursed in the past, and nothing bad ever happened. [but I will admit the last curse I was rather irritable for a few days, but it was mostly the situation that was making me mad, however, it kept charging up more negative energy, which kept me in a bad mood]
Your perception of ethics may differ wildly than someone else's, so generally it is up to you to decide right from wrong. That being said, if you feel that harming someone in order to prevent even greater conflict, then that is your personal perception of the situation. Many witches have varying beliefs on this, including ones that condemn any negative actions towards others. If this is something you believe in, then it would mean you have to stop yourself from taking a negative action even if it is in the best interest of the greater good, because it conflicts with your morals.
Ultimately, no one can fully define evil and good in a way that everyone agrees with. If you are struggling with the idea of doing this, consider more carefully whether the only means really is harming someone. As a healer, I tend to avoid harming others at all costs and often there is a way around putting more harm into the world. Try meditating on this for a while before doing anything.
Personally I never use black magick. My path does not tolerate it, but before you do I would ask yourself three questions. How well do I know the person that is trying to harm me?; Do I know for sure someone is trying to harm me? Sometimes we overreact to little things and think that there is only one way to solve a problem. Im not saying this is the case it sounds like you have tried many options. For example, once I thought that someone had hexed me but it turned out that I had inadvertently hexed myself. Thats the short version at least. Moral being know as much as you can before doing something drastic. If you practice divination, use if to help you choose a path forward. Meditation is also a good way to do this.
Do you know and are you willing to accept the risks of the path you choose?; With black magick these risks are higher than ever. Something bad will happen to you if you preform black magick, period. The question is, how bad will it be? Are you prepared to deal with the consequences even if you achieve your goal?
Lastly, Are you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that nothing else will work?; Have you have tried everything you are capable of to avoid black magick? Of course I dont know your situation so these are genuine questions. But healing and protection are my specialty so if you need or want a protection spell or ritual feel free to ask and I would be happy to help. You can also tweak them to fit your needs and situation. Other than that I would try a banishing spell or a ritual to redirect the incoming bad energy to something else, the something else could be as simple as a rock that you set on your windowsill to collect the energy and then is buried after you feel it has contained all of the energy, or it could be as complex as an amulet that you wear daily and cleansed monthly under a full moon.
I hope this helps, feel free to mail me if you have any questions! Good luck and blessed be!
