1 - what religion do you follow? (so I won't accidentally suggest a book or ritual that totally won't jive with your beliefs)
2 - How often do you meditate? Meditation is an important skill in magick and you should have at least passable skill with meditation before moving on to spells or rituals.
3 - How good are you at visualization? Like, if I were to tell you to picture a tree, how easy would that be and how much detail would the tree have? Visualization is another important skill in magick and you will again need some skill in it.
4 - Do you ground and center? Grounding and centering are very core energy exercises in which you draw in your own straying aura and energetically root yourself into the earth. This will allow you to both draw in energy and ground (drain out) excess or "dirty" energy. Both are needed for ritual, grounding in particular as you can otherwise end up manic and over-charged after a ritual.
There's no single "best" way to do these things. Everyone is different.
I prefer zazen meditation. Sit with close to a wall (your knees almost touching it) and stare at it. Your back should be straight so your vertebrae feel like a perfectly balanced column. You then sit and look at the wall doing your best to dismiss stray thoughts. The idea is to make your mind stop jabbering so you can spend some time alone with yourself.
There are also several ways to ground and center, and here is he method I use;
I close my eyes and do my best to physically relax. I take a deep breath in and, in my mind, try to imagine following that breath into me. The first breath usually goes down to around my heart. I take another deep breath and imagine my breath going even deeper, down to my navel. I take a final deep breath and follow it to my center of gravity below my navel. I then breath calmly while focusing on this point. This is centering and what this does is draw your straying aura and energy back into you.
Once I feel good and centered I continue my take-a-deep-breath-and-follow-it-down exercise, this time going down through my spine and down into the ground. With each breath I visualize it going deeper into the earth until I feel connected. I can then concentrate on pulling energy up or sending energy out and down into the earth. This is grounding, and I'll warn you that the first few times you try it you might get kind of manic from the rush of energy it can cause.
A google search for "meditation" or "grounding & centering" should both bring up several other methods you can try.
