There are some definitions many deem incorrect that says the term warlock refers to an oathbreaker. I can't recall the exact wording but I also once heard a warlock defined as someone who misuses nature or the earth in someway related to magick pretty much indicating someone who minuses their abilities to cause others harm. In the end in regards to popular culture a warlock is normally a name used refer to a male individual who practices magick.
The term Warlock comes from an old Anglo-Saxon word meaning "oath breaker" and it is commonly used to designate someone who has violated their oaths to their coven and who has been outcast (or warlocked) because of it.
Hollywood took this term and designed it specifically for their own needs using a dogmatic opinion, and decided it meant any male Witch (it's fairly ridiculous to hear about, I know and totally agree with this statement)... I think I've seen that misleading and incorrect definition particularly in the show called "Charmed" or something similar to that. But this is incorrect, as I've already stated here. A Witch is a Witch whether they be male or female. Generally when you find someone claiming to be a Warlock they are of the role-playing sort. If they're not role-playing, they probably know nothing or at least have a confused mind or a misconception about witchraft so I'd be careful with this specific term when it comes to magic websites.
There are also a few out there who have claimed the name Warlock for themselves largely for the shock value and the publicity it gets them because they cater to the Hollywood image in people's minds.
And now I must state this in order to make things clear, even if it's not too relevant to here (since the thread focuses on the word's definitions specifically). Most Witches would be highly insulted if you referred to them as a Warlock, and would look askance at someone calling themselves a Warlock. They find it irgnorant or at least disrespectful. It's just a stern reminder which might actually help you and let you know which terminology to choose whn you're publically talking to other magic practitioners. ;)
So to my mind the only way you could be a Warlock is if you were either an oath-breaker, a role-player, or a publicity hound. LOL
The term Warlock, as already mentioned refers to an oath-breaker or one who betrayed the oaths they took to their coven. Using that term for a Witch would be considered a grave insult.
My teacher is a warlock . A warlock isn't an oath breaker .
A warlock is someone who doesn't do lot of rituals and doesn't need TON of things for making a spell .
Wiccans open portals shields praying chanting etc. lot of things which will take 30 min or 1 2 hours.
A warlock does spell from nearby materials. Warlocks use the nature to do spells. They don't open portals or something like this. Example they take a rock and chant some words and the spell is ready.
It's hard to be warlock. They are some warlocks which sell their souls to Satan, but not all .
DemonLord, your post unfortunately shows that you know nothing about Wicca and just as little about the term Warlock. If you have any interest at all in learning more about what Wicca really is I'd be happy to share some resources to help you learn.
