You will never have great power, sorry to break it to you but hell it's true.

The best way to gain power is to PRACTICE and TRAIN.

So why don't you try that instead of thinking of rediculous ways that will more than likely not work.

Most creatures you summon, and if you ask them for great power they ask for something back, like parts of your soul maybe?

So why don't you stop and think, even if you gain a lot of power you sure as hell won't know how to use and control it.

I thought that teaching you a power is giving you power...

And the name thing is right. But an entity won't comply only because you know his name-- rather, he'll comply because a name is a link to the personal energy: if you get a wand or knife and jab at the sigil/name for not complying, whatever happens to his name happens to him: a prodding, or cutting.
But the entity's reaction depends on its strength, if they're weaker they'll go "Ouch! Fine, I'll do it already." If not...

And yup djinn and genie are the same word, just different spellings.

or you could do what i want to do and use graveyard necromancy to summn another soul through a reanimate body and get a wizard to enter it and teach you... I personally would rather just make a really powerful wand

Actually! some ridiculous ways do work. I might aswell tell you all, Demons would sometimes offer you power, at the price of, giving them a free pass to our realm. Now don't bother telling me not to let them in our realm, because I have no other choice apart from selling them my soul, or giving them a bit of my soul.

And dont say I will never get power, because I will. I know alot of people who where new to magic, and gained power by summoning faery's and demons etc. I'll find a way... I will.
